Hello

I am just wondering what are the optimal climate control settings where:

1. The inside temp stays nice and comfy at about 20-21dc
2. The Car heats up quickly in chilli mornings/evening
3. You don't get the smog inside the car windows and
4. The car doesn't burn too much fuel too (if keeping the AC on).

This is what I use: - Click Here -

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Auto should be selected (rather than the various directions) and the recirculation should be turned off - that way the car works out the best fan speed and direction it can to achieve what you are looking for

Agree with your setting other than Auto should be on and no re circulation. If left like this the car seems perfect.

Using A/C will make little differnce to your fuel consumption, it's far better kept on all the time.

This is only true this time of the year. If you use it on the continent when the exterior temperature is over 30, then it will use more fuel. You don't get something for nothing; extra fuel will be necessary to drive the compressor.

1. After many hours of driving, 21C on both sides is the most comfortable - I'm not a fan of dual climate zones and usually won't let my wife touch her side of the controls

Sometimes if it gets too hot, I just select the low the fan speed setting. If too cold, use the high fan speed setting. That's all the "temperature" adjustment I ever do.

2. I find the car heats up very quickly as soon as the engine starts running. I say I takes about 5 minutes before car is nice and warm - the fastest compared to any car I ever drove. Do make sure second row passenger vents are open and switched on too.

3. I never get smog because I never switch off A/C.

4. I find A/C doesn't burn THAT much fuel (of course it does use more). Driving smoothly and keep tyre pressures correct (see on the label on drivers door) is the best way to save fuel!

How does the car know what is the internal temperature and know how to control the speed of the fan?

Where is the sensor inside the car?

I read this post with great interest as over the past few weeks I have found the heating to be very erratic i.e the car heats up very quickly and continues increasing the temperature even when I turn it down to 21 or 20.5 it still remains hot when I say hot I mean HOT out of the vents so in the end I turn off the vents But the next day it could be completely different it would be what I call normal . . . I am wondering if a faulty thermostat or does keep the heat going till the whole cabin gets warm ?

I am glad you found this post useful. Makes me feel I am not the only one who doesn't know the best settings... hahaha

Since after many of you guys suggested to keep the AUTO ON and re-circulation OFF... I have been doing it and to be honest I don't have to worry or think about anything now. I do set up the temp to 27-28dc as soon as I sit and after 15-20 mins, bring it back to 21dc and forget about it for the rest of the journey. It has worked very well... The car heats up quick and then at 21dc it stays nice/cosy and comfortable.

Sounds like you may have a faulty thermostat that doesn't stop the heating.

Anyways does anyone know if there is an internal temp sensor, how does the car know how to control the fan speed?

One of my pet hates this!

The whole point about climate control is that it will get hot air into the cabin as soon as it’s available from the engine - putting it up to 27-28C does not get it to 21C any quicker at all, all that happens is the car interior is overheated then needs to be cooled down again.

If you want it to get to 21C then leave it on 21C and the car does the rest.

How is your condenser? Have you got it checked? Do you have enough Aircon gas?

I know what you mean but when you get inside a cold car, all you want is the hot air and setting the temp to 28dc means that as soon the engine is ready to send hot air, it will work to its maximum limit to make the car hot (quicker)... and after about 15-20 mins (when you start to feel NOT cold anymore), bring the temp back to 21dc so it will stay cosy.
