After 8 days of ownership my 2008 1.6 VTR has decided to throw a gallic strop

Booted the kick down to go past a doddering idiot in a beemer and engine died.:( red engine light came up on lh panel and service on the right

Checked error messages and to a diesel particulate filter warning... had to drive home it started and ran ok but I was very gentle.. cruise control has stopped working as well

I am based in Harefield Middlesex does anyone have a recommendation for a garage to take it to.. preferably not a main steeler !

Cheers in advance
Chris

Sounds like the car went into 'limp home' mode

I'm assuming that it is a Diesel but you don't say?

If it is, how many miles has it done?

It could be several things so we need more information.......

I would change the fuel filter (there is a Tutorial) then take the car for a run at 50 mph for 20-30 minutes to let the DPF regeneration process take place.

It had a good long run the night before 2 hours on motorway @ 60-70
will change the fuel filter as Dave suggested and do another run

It may clear after a couple of engine restarts, if not, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes to force a BSi reset. The speedo will revert to KPH but is easily reset, the radio will be fine as it's coded to the cars Vin.

If changing the fuel filter doesn't help, then your going to have to get the error log read via the OBII port behind the ashtray to try and narrow things down.

Fuel filter purchased from local spares supplier, tutorial printed off and LED work lamp charged up.

Got home, had a brew and set to it, filter changed (ugh very very dirty). Battery disconnected for 15 mins, red engine light has now extinguished.

Been on a 40 min drive on motorway at 50-55 as recommended.

All seems to be ok..
Will let you know how I get on
Chris
