Hi all,

I have a subject car, owned from 2011. Now I have 77000 kilometres away, and EP6C engine's sound become to be closer to the diesel engine when performing cold start at the morning. Is that OK, or I have to stress nearest dealership?

Sounds like the hydraulic tappets are not getting pressurised fast enough.

You may need to change the grade of oil to improve flow but if that fails it could be a faulty tappet.

Thank you, Dave. Now I'm using recommended by PSA Total INEO ESC. What would you recommend to use in future?

What are you using 10w 40?

Drop it down to 5w 40 given the cold where you are.

Oil specs are in the FAQ: - Click Here -

Oh dear, sounding like a diesel...! <runs>

My C4 has the same engine, and last oil change it got Valvoline ENV C2 SYNPower Full Synthetic 5w30...

If you like to stick with Total, then Total's website says Total Quartz INEO ECS 5w30...

All the time my dealer used Total Quartz INEO ECS 5W-30 for car service. And here, in CIS, that "diesel noise" is a common problem during cold season. Some people believe that timing chain and its holders produce this sound.
I'm worried not about noise itself, but there is known issue with stretching of timing chain in the EP6 Engine because of some reason.
