Due to the current panic buying draining the pumps dry and my trip to Somerset from Norfolk tomorrow, I topped up to brimming with 9.06l (in case theres no fuel down there).
My gauge and trip range did not register this fill up, it still had the last bar missing.
Was the amount I topped up to insignicant for the gauge to register?
I am sure I read something like that on here but alas cannot find the post.
Any advice greatly appreciated by this non computer wizard.
Thanks in advance.

Does it really matter as long as you have a full tank?

There's plenty of fuel around, unless you panic over trival things like this, in that case, it's best not to drive anywhere.

Thanks for your reply. I was after advice about the gauge, is it faulty or is the small top up rumour true. Unfortunately as a private driver delivering next day deliveries for the NHS fuel is currently very important to me, hence knowing that I have a a full tank is required. My next customer could be any of us. I do agree that the numpties buying for the sake of it is a pain to those that require fuel to put food on the table.

Is it a diesel? if so then you shouldn't do small top ups, messes up the eolys system.

And going by your sig, you are getting 700+ miles per tank, do you do over 700 miles a day?

Yes it is diesel. Wasn't aware of the EOLYS thing this is my first diesel. I will do half tanks from now on and hope the maniacs who panic buy for no reason stop it.

Apparently it squirts the eolys fluid in by a fixed amount every time you open the fuel cap. And goes on the assumption you are filling it up.

I have read some cars need to see a significant increase in level before resetting the fuel gauge, since it's all digital now (and the value shown bears little real connection to what the sensors says) then it's taken as could be you've parked on a hill.

Old fuel gauges would go up and down, heavily damped to try stop this. New ones dont do this anymore.

Hi all.
Let the tank drop down to just below half, filled up and happy days the gauge is fully illuminated and the range reset to 870.
So to those who advised small topups are not good, you were right.
