Hi

We have a 2006 model C4 1.6SX auto with the AL4 gearbox. Basically, it has sat around for a few months over the winter and the battery went flat. I recharged the battery off the car and re-connected it back up and now the gear selector is stuck in Park as pressing the brake doesn't operate the shift lock. Nothing shows up on the dash to signify what gear it is in with a hyphen type digit showing instead of P or D. If I force the gear lever, it shifts into a driveable gear and drives but doesn't change gear so I guess it's in 3rd (default).

A friendly mechanic put it on his diagnostic computer and he said he couldn't read the ecu on the gearbox at all so believes it to be a wiring/electronics issue so recommended taking it to a decent auto electrician nearby who specialises in such things but he can't have a look for a couple of weeks.

Prior to the battery going flat, it was working fine. Any ideas or possible fixes I could attempt from home that doesn't require a Citroen diag computer? Anything I can try to kick start this into working? I've looked at the fuses and can't see anything tripped out??
