Yeah been caught out like this with other cars. I now proactively replace battery at 5 year mark to prevent getting stranded at a bad time!

No power to OBD2 socket

Thanks Tom. Luckily found the problem. It was a shorted electric heater element that helps provide quick heat into the cabin on cold days, located next to heater blower.
