Electric window - switch mis-behaving. |

Apologies upfront as this may get to be quite a long explanation of an odd problem I'm having. Car in question is an 05 1.6 petrol VTR+ coupe. The problem I have is concerned with operating the passenger electric window from the drivers side controls. Operating the window using the passenger side is fine. Anyway, to the problem: If I try to operate the passenger side window using to controls on the drivers side, this is what happens. Push the switch down, nothing happens. Pull the switch up and the window goes down, stopping when I release the switch. If I let the window go all the way down (by holding the switch up!) - and then continue to hold the switch in the UP position, after about 5-10 seconds, the window will eventually start to come back up. Then the window operates perfectly - Up is up, DOWN is down. This will be the case for the next few days. After that, the switch reverts to its strange operating state. I've tried doing the anti-trap reset procedure when you open and close the window fully, hold the switch in the UP and DOWN positions for 15 of so seconds, as mentioned in a few other threads, but that doesn't seem to solve the problem. One option is to replace the switch unit, but given that the switch can be put into a state where it operates fine, I'm not convinced that the switch is faulty. I'm also of the opinion that the window motor, regulator etc is OK as it behaves perefctly when using the passenger side switch. Anyone have any thoughts? |

Replace the switch has been the previous advice if all the wiring etc. is connected OK | ||||

I would second that and go for the switch change. The part is about £50 and is a very simple swap over, can be done in 5 minutes. I had a similar problem with mine when I first got it and a new switch sorted it. |

You'll need the VIN for the exact part number (e.g. no electric rear windows, manual folding non-heated mirrors, &c.) but it looks like 6554.HE, the full retail detail price of which is £27.53 + VAT =£32.35. | ||||

I am not saying the C4 switch in any way has the same design or could have the same fault as this, but in the case of the Honda Jazz a faulty window switch has has lethal consequences. - Click Here - So probably best to get it replaced. |

Humm, wasn't there a way to reset the switch's that was talked about ages ago??? Maybe even take the battery off for a bit as daft as it sound's. | ||||

diesel, I think you might be thinkning of the "take the window all the way down and hold the switch for 15-20 seconds, then repeat the process taking the window all the way up" procedure. I suspect that that's actually what I'm doing when continue to hold the switch in the up position after the window has gone all the way down. For those that are interested, since I "reset" the window as I described in the original posting, its working fine. |

I have the exact same problem (though didn't get the same amount of responses) with pressing UP makes the windows go DOWN, but only sometimes. As its not a major issue and it works fine on the passenger window, I've left it. It's been like that for about 6 months. If it always did this I'd think about fixing this, but as it's intermittent, I've left it. | ||||

My drivers door switches were intermittent. After taking the panel out of the car I squirted some contact cleaner (Servisol) into the little rectangular holes near where the contacts must be on the circuit board. The problem is fixed and has stayed fixed. I first noticed this issue with some of the C4s that I test drove before buying mine, so it must be a common problem. If the switch contacts were sealed from the air I would not have been able to "spray" them, but the dust, dirt and moisture would have been kept out in the first place! 2005 SX 1.6 petrol |

Glossevans, I drove my wife's C4 on the weekend (I rarely do) and noticed exactly the same problem with control of the passenger's side window. So you are not alone. Let us know how you get on (contact cleaner?) Regards G |

I had the same problem, it was worse in the hot weather. Sprayed contact cleaner while operating switch back and two, now OK. | ||||

Nice to find this topic, I've got the same problems.. Normally I bang on the door and than the windows work normally again.. But maybe it's an idea to buy that spray! 'Cause the cruise control gives me troubles too... Let's hope this contact spray works.. Servisol is it?? Thanks |

When you think about the life these switches have I'm surprised they last as long as they do. They are exposed to all the element including rain when you open the door (and if you are like SWMBO leaves it open in the rain for as long as possible) and then there is the high humidity inside the door from rain and extremes of temperature from summer through to winter.... |

I occasionally get this with the passenger door and also the cruise control. Switch on/off a few times usually resolves it and so does using the aircon for an hour or so with the temperature turned up. It's definitely a humidity problem rather than dust. | ||||
