Can anybdy tell me how easy it would be to add a 2nd 12V socket in the front of my GP? On the floor there is a blacking plate for the optional USB port and I am wondering if it could be fitted with a 12V socket (have too many gadgets).

Shouldn't be any different to the Coupe/Hatch and BigJohnD has a forum thread explaining the process

Dave,
Had a look at this in the FAQ but the GP appears to be somewhat different. Useful to know where to get the 12V socket from though!

I think I have a spare 12v socket, which you can have if you want it, dr_gummi.

I'll have a look for it in the garage later on.

Our GP has one 12v socket and one cig lighter in the floor console so it is possible. You may be lucky and the wiring might already be there.

(edit) (Both are ignition controlled)

I definitely have one sat here on my desk which I never fitted in the C4. (The C6 has 3 in the cabin and another in the boot so it's going spare)

Have you thought about using an extension/multi socket. Ive got one in my Coupe in the glove box, it has four sockets for your gadgets, and a switched plug for the car's 12v socket.

Does the job really well.

Might be an easier option.

They can look messy Clive, but I ran one behind the dash to run 2 devices so a good reminder.

I have one plugged in at the moment, and although it does not get knocked as much in the C4 as in my old touran it looks messy and gets knocked every now and then. I'd much prefer a more elegant solution.

Main problem with the C4 is working out how to get it appart - I had access to the VW workshop manual on the Touran.

Thanks for that. Looking to replace the blanking plug (labled 9) with something that has power!

The surround (1) is probably push-fit so just pulls off - with a lot of care.

If the socket opposite the blanked one is a cigarette lighter or 12v scoket, then it's just a matter of neatly cutting into the wires for the additional one. Structly speaking you should disconnect the battery for this job, but if the key is out, the critical wire won't be live, but check first.

You might want to consider an in-line fuse - 10A (nominal 100W) should be plenty for most things.

Where are you getting these exploded diagrams from?

One has to trawl through hundreds of threads to try to find them.

I'm already a Premium member and have perused the downloads.

Does anyone know whether these diagrams collated into a section I have missed?
