Can't really see where to post this so I'll do it here.

I've now had my egs coupe for a few days. Done about 500 miles and am very impressed. I part exed an Alfa 156 for it and obviously its totally different. This is the first deisel I've ever had for a start.

The C4 feels intelligently put together. The egs box is just great and I love it. The brakes are incredible - I'd really like to know what the esp does - it kicks in when you press fast I think - not when you press hard. Interesting idea.

I wasn't impressed with the sound system until... I played a CD. Very good. Those tweeters on the dash are very good. That would be why it sounds better faded to the front than the rear.

The cruise control/limiter is excellent. Safe and usable.

I've one slight problem which I'll post in the problems forum but so far I think I'm going to enjoy this car.

Citroën's have always had excellent brakes. Even the inboard fronts on a 2CV are more powerful than needed!

Correction; sorry, didn't mean ' esp'.

I think Its called 'emergency braking assistance'. That would be what happened the first time I braked at a roundabout in a C4, stood on the brakes as I would have in my Alfa and the C4 just imediately stopped on its nose without me feeling any 'progressive' braking resistance!

Don't know if I've explained that very well but hope you get what I mean...

ESP = Electronic Stability Programme, which responses to wheel spin and big differences between rotational speeds

ABS = Anti-lock braking which can stop a C4 very quickly and under control. Very hard braking will cause the hazard lights to come on automatically.

Is there not also the Citroen equivalent of Renault's EBA (Emergency Brake Assistance)?. This ensures that you get maximum braking in an emergency situation. The name says it all! I don't know how it knows it is an emergency, though.

Yes there is a system called EBD, electronic brake-force distribution.

The system kicks in under hard braking using the same sensors that turn on the hazard warning lights.

I've found it - page 71 of my manual;

"Emergency braking assistance

This system enables you in an emergency to achieve optimum braking pressure, thus to reduce the stopping distance. It is triggered by your speed of action on the brake pedal, which reduces its resistance to that action.

Keep the brake pedal pressed until the vehicle comes to a stop"

Anyway, I can verify that it works! So do the seatbelts fortunately, or we'd have exited via the front windscreen.

Yes the brakes can have that effect if applied vigorously

I love the C4 brakes but they take some getting use to as they are a bit fierce!

I've never had to brake that hard…
