It's a well known minor problem on early 1.6 HDi engines whereby the locating 'lugs' on the engine side of the heat shield fail through corrosion / fatigue

Members have had there's replaced under warranty and mine has been broken for a year!

However, even though it can't go anywhere it does allow some hot air to get past toward the turbo and will rattle so I thought I might change it as it only cost £15.21 + Vat from [Dealer 1] as a Premier Member - Part number is 1723T3 which is a strengthened part.

It only took 25 minutes to change including digging out the 10 mm spanner, taking the pictures for a tutorial and washing my hands afterward

So go here to have a read of what to do - Click Here -

Heat shield rattle finally needed sorting. Decided to repair by making with stainless lugs from 2mm thick strip

Stainless has a high fatigue strength unlike aluminium so this should last the life of the car.

In the photos, its possible to see where the nut holding the stainless lugs are bolted furher back to the nice thick heat shield material.

Regards
G

It has just gone on mine.

Although it could have gone during the creaking seat episode and I just didn't notice.

Whilst gmerry did a great DIY fix, for the cost of a replacement I would just buy a new strengthened one from Citroen (I'm lazy now)

The DIY fix is impressive, but yes, it'll be a strengthened one bought via Premier member discount!

interesting stuff. I had a mega noisy heat sheild that I repaired once. Eventually it got so bad and rattled like crazy it damaged the water cooled oil cooler housing.

On the advice of my local dealer (to stop it happening again) they have now removed the entire heat shield! I'm not sure this is a good idea or not. Could this damage other components if it gets super hot?

Just buy and fit a new one. They aren't expensive and are easy to fit. Citroen designed the car to have one.

Hi, I priced the new heat shield today, at Dealer 1, £18.66 + vat, you can't beat that. I priced it also at a franchised Citroen/Mazda dealer in Wallasey today, £26.

I've got a Diagnostic appointment on Saturday, 8am, Dealer 1, £70 all in, my C4 1.6HDi splutters/cuts out in bad weather, so I thought I'd better get it sorted, sooner better than later.

Hello folks, sorry to open an old thread.

Does anyone know how to do this on a 57 plate car. They have changed the one resonator fixing to a torx screw on one side and there is no way on earth you can get to it to loosen. (the one with the silver tape on the pipe )

I didn't want to pull too hard but i'm stumped

I can add to this now as there has been a design change at some point.

On the new design which you can identify because the left hand screw on the turbo resonator is now a Torx.

On these, this screw can't be removed as it's not possible to get a tool in.

The sequence is to remove the right hand screw, bracket and jubilee clip that holds the pipe on.

You can now swing the resonator all the way around to clear the 'new' torx screw.

adds about 5 mins to the overall time.

Hy guys,

I have a 2006 1.6 HDI 110 VTR+ hatch with 64.000 km on the clock. Yesterday it started ratling from the engine bay, and after a quick inspection it was the heat shield, but not the upper part covering the turbo, but it seems that the lover part covering the downpipe is loose.

I checked the upper two bolts on the turbo part described here and they are fine.

It looks to me like the back part of the downpipe heat shield is loose from the engine. Is there a quick fix, or should I try to find a new one?

Becasue as I can see it is not an easy job to change it.

Chears
