Had the car running a few weeks now, started using the crusie control the other day, it worked very intermittently.

Symptoms are when switching it on the display would just flash endlessly not displaying a speed, hitting + or - didnt change anything.

It did work fine for a few trips but now when I turn it on I get a bleep and the service light, it goes out after a mnute or 2 after cruise is turned off.

The limiter works fine.

Have I broke it?

Cheers

Joe

Somethings not right then, could be a simple stalk issue, speed sensor or something more involved like and ecu .

Citroen only fix I'd say

This was a common problem on some of the older cars...including mine.

Usual failure points are Software Update required (although if yours is newer then I doubt this would be effected), dodgy clutch switch or the actual switch control on the steering wheel. Mine had all three changed and eventually cured it.

As I say its a know prob and thus the car shouldnt be in for too long...i.e. no more than a day.

I had this about 3 months after the car was new - I ws on a motorway run to London. Initially I did'nt realise that it was associated with teh cruise control as that was working fine. However coming home the next day with the cruise control on the service light went out and I have had no further problems.

Mines a 55 Reg SX 1.6i, noticed today its just showiing a message speed control faulty, no service light at the moment, so looks like I might need a trip to the dealers.

Just checking theres no reset or fuse pulling to try first.

Thanks

Well just spoke to some og my old mates at a delarship and they reckon its the "clutch switch " replaced quite a few of them. So I will report back once changed.

Hi

Just my 2 cents worth - noted i had the same problem, only occurred after they did the software upgrade on the steering column during one of the recalls. Went back in and the service centre said it was not fitted properly - i.e. loose. they have tightened it and no problems since.

Actually sat in the dealer now waiting for this (and 10 other faults!) to be fixed. My car is an 05 so not under Citroen warranty - I did shell out for an Evans Halshaw warranty but judging by the mutterings about "diagnostic charges" I reckon this will turn out to be a critical component that is not covered by the "comprehensive 2 year warranty"...hmmm...expect to read about it in the Sheffield Star if the bill is too large!

I had a similar problem, The service light would come on and "speed control system faulty" would be displayed and the cruise control wouldn't work but would go away if if I turned the car off and restarted it

Went to the dealer today they couldn't find any faults so they just reset the software in the car.Hopefully that'll clear it

Oh boy, the clutch switch is not the easiest thing to get to, even finding it takes a bit of effort.
I had to drop the large bolt that that forms the pedal pivot out to get a bit of movement on them to change it.

So far so good no errors as yet but we will see, I couldnt really see much wrong with the old one, cut it open just to have a look, did notice it had some oil on it, maybe got soaked whilst someone was trying to cure a pedal squeak.

Mine was "No fault found". They charged me £82.19 to tell me!! The mechanic told me the switches had been checked and were fine. No faults logged by the car.

Well mines been fine since the switch change, so fingers crossed, total cost £11.60 plus vat.

I have not had mine on the diag kit so not sure if it was logged or not, just took the advice on the most common failure point. At the price it was a no brainer, if it was £116 I may have bottled out.

My service lamp came on today when trying to use cruise control. I suspect that this is a result of citroen adjusting my ventilation set up last week. Oh well back to the dealers, still a few months left on warrantee..
