The car had its 100K Km service today, a little late at 102Km. The dealer's report is: a) Brake light not working (which Barrie told me about at FCS). Replaced, new bulb = 79p b) Rear pads have probably got about 5,000 miles left in them. c) Bill: £112.50 + Parts + VAT = £199. d) Thank you - see you in another 7 months! Car seems fine and continues with around 55mpg. Another non-event in the life of BJ's C4… |

Well another three months have passed, and we're up to 67,000 miles. Nothing to report, really. I did nearly hit a cyclist who was riding the wrong way along a one street, but that doesn't really count as I missed him and got a mouthful of sailor-speak for letting him live. The last tankful returned 55.3mpg (5.1litres/100km) which is usual. I've been using Total Excellium Diesel as a) it's same price as Shell and Tesco; b) it's very convenient at the top of the road, and never busy; and c) if Seb Loeb had a diesel C4, it's what he'd put in it. I checked the oil today, which was black as usual, and decided I could squeeze a token 100ml in. So that's 100ml in 4000+ miles or a litre every 40,000 miles. Not bad, given the price of good quality oil from obscure parts of the planet. I topped up the squirters too, while under the bonnet, using maximum strength winter grade unfreezable blue stuff from the Total garage. I did a lap of the car, starting with kicking the front tyres which are excellent but expensive Michelin Exaltos. They're wearing a bit, perhaps half worn. The shiny C4Owners.org sticker was still there on the stern, and the rear tyres looked fine - no signs of any uneven wear or anything. I opened the boot to check the spare, but was a bit upset to see the the pullout thing in the boot stop the wine boxes sliding about was a bit damaged, but I think I can repair it. OMIGAWD! Yes I will repair it. I've just surfed over to Citroën Accessories and discovered Citroën want £391 for new one!!! Say that again? £391 - including fitting though - well I should think so, and gold plated too. - Click Here - Carrying on… The spare was still there. Car needs a wash (I hate cleaning those Resolfens, but they do look good), and the interior needs a good Dysoning. Returning to the pointed end, I reckoned an under bonnet clean wouldn't go amiss either, and I realised that the headlight protectors were still on from my visit to France in February. But I was getting cold so I left them on. Well, I might just do an impromptu Beaujolais run after work… Better get the back pads replaced before then though. (See previous message) After having had all the scratches removed, I did notice a dint in the rear offside door which can only have been put there by some low life with a negative IQ, who must have smacked my pride and joy with the door his scrappage rust bucket. Not sure waht to about it - nothing probably. The MOT will need doing again around Christmas, which hopefully might coincide with the next 75,000 mile service, and the tax disc runs out next year some time. I was vaguely thinking of trading in if the deal was good. I did have a glance at the new VTR+ brochure on Citroën.co.uk, but it lacks so much of the old VTR+ standard kit. Who wants to go down-market? And the VTS spec isn't that exciting either. So, maybe I'll be doing a "Phil and Dave" and moving on from C4. Who knows? Well, apart from that shock of £391, all is well. Nice one, Citroën. |

The odo rolled over to 70,000 miles on the way home tonight. There's nothing to report, really, other than as soon as it's a bit warmer, I need to inspect the brake pads and check the tread on the front tyres. All I've done is keep filling up the squirters and occasionally checking the oil (none added). The car's a fraction over 4 years old and passed its MOT without any comment. A headlamp bulb had blown, but I told Windsors to replace it before testing. MPG dropped to about 48/50mpg, but it's been cold and I've not really done any long journeys. If I'd known it was going to be so cold for so long, I'd have bought the cold weather grille. Next service is due in 5,000 miles which should be May/June time, and then in August, we're off to south west France for a wedding at the Château de Mauriac near Albi. Looks a terrific place. Meanwhile, a good clean wouldn't go amiss. |

The car's being traded in tomorrow. There's about 80,200 on the clock, of which I've done over 67,000. It brings back memories of the north coast of Scotland, potholed autoroutes in northern France and Belgium; the Millau Viaduct and Andorran mountain passes in the Pyrenées. I paid about £10,250 for it at Christmas 2006. It had just had its first service at 12,500 miles, and was a year old. It was previously a Citroën UK Lease car. It was last serviced at 75,800 miles. There was nothing additional to the regular schedule to be done. 2 months later at 78,200 miles, it failed the MOT on a ball joint (£107) and the tester recommended I get two new front tyres. Which I did - two Michelin Exaltos for £267 from BlackCircles. (I see they're now £180 each!) During that period, a few light bulbs failed, and I got a second chip in the windscreen. Surprisingly, the car passed the MOT with the two chips on the driver's side. So, I'm having the screen replaced right now before trading in - the light and wiper sensor and the self-dimming mirror are currently hanging down on their wires as I type! No-one wants a car with two big chips in the screen. In over four years, there's never been an unscheduled day off the road. The engine is as good as ever. MPG has never been lower than 50, ensured by the winter grille, and this tank is currently giving 56mpg as it's a bit warmer now. The average reading for the 5,000 miles since the service (i.e. over the winter) is 51.3mpg. Oil consumption has been negligible. Front tyres all did 25,000+ miles, rears over 50,000. Front discs and pads replaced at just over 50,000; rears at 73,500. The car polished up a treat after a long period of benign neglect and the interior looks good too. The rear seats have hardly been used, and the driver's seat compares well with them. Autoglym Hi-Foam Interior Shampoo did wonderful job on the roof lining, which had some champagne stains, and I can't remember what solvent I used on the alloy wheels, but they cleaned up well with a toothbrush! And there's a handy additional 12v socket by the headlight adjuster for the StaNav. There's an additional DAB aerial though I've put the original RD4 back which is 9702.EZ USB/iPod Box enabled and has the 9706.AG Aux input. So that's it - the most reliable, comfortable and economical car I've owned in 40 years. Someone is going to get a well looked after car. |

I was checking my car on Citroën.Service.com, and discovered: a) I have an engine not yet listed on our forum - VF7**9HP******** - which has the DPFS, and b) the car is classed as "C4 (B7) - DS4 5 DOOR SALOON 1.6 HDi 92 Manual gearbox 5" - the DS4 bit surprised me. |

(B7) is the code for the 2011 C4 John, the DS4 will share an awful lot of parts from the, C4, engine, drive train, electrics etc. so it's not surprising that it's included | ||

BigJohnD wrote ... Looks OK, but they want £5K for it. Circa £2,000 is the typical trader markup on used cars these days to allow for trade in and any repairs required, so is not all profit and should be remembered when negotiating a deal as a buyer. |

and Citroen reckon my '57 plate 40,000 mile coupe is worth £4500. Last time I was in the dealers I saw an unregistered Exclusive with what seem like every option, list price of over £22K down to £17k sat in the showroom, deals to be had already it seems |
