We have been getting the dashboard warning of "Engine Fault Repair Needed" however there is no other warning light (our Service light is illuminated)

The warning doesn't come up when the engine starts only when we reach approx 40mph and it doesn't seem to come on when using cruise control either.

We brought a diagnostics machine and there is no fault code (aware it probably does need to go through a garage diagnostics),

The warning is not constantly displayed and when you go to the car diagnostics nothing is displayed. It only appears whilst driving and then it goes again a few seconds later.

Any ideas what it could be?

If you cant read fault codes, it means it is not in ECU. Probably is fault related to ABS, so you need a bit better diagnostic to read its ECU. Due to fault not being permanent, I would say it is related to either faulty sensor or maybe some loose wire, etc.
