 Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with my 2008 C4 Picasso 1.8. The ABS and ESP warning lights are almost always on while driving. Initially, they would come on occasionally and then turn off, but now they remain lit most of the time. Despite this, the car drives smoothly when the lights are on.

However, when the lights are off (which is rare), I notice a grinding sound when I brake. So, instead of being concerned about why the lights are on, I'm now more worried about what happens when they're off.

One diagnostic test pointed to a faulty BSI.

P.S. I'll try to find a similar issue (and solution) throughout all the threads, but if someone can quickly narrow down the issue from experience, that'd be wonderful.

 Grinding noise can be due to worn out brake pads. Be careful with that, I have destroyed my rear disks because of worn out pads. ABS error can be triggered by brake light switch which is behind brake pedal. Even if its not correctly positioned in its place can trigger this issue. Also, ABS ring can loose contact with ABS sensor, you have one on each wheel. In diagnostic you will have wrong information regarding speed on one of the wheels.That can also trigger this issue. Another error can be faulty handbrake switch. So, at least 3 scenarios can occured, proper diagnostic should pinpoint actual fault. You can check yourself brake pedal switch, you can also change handbrake switch but first check what exactly is faulty

 Bok,

It’s time to finally address this issue.
I’m not sure if this helps narrow it down, but I connected an OBDII adapter and used a car scanner — the only error it showed was C1331.
Does this help, or should I start by replacing the handbrake switch and then go through the list above one by one until the issue is resolved?

My guess is that the ABS ring has lost contact with the ABS sensor?
Anyway, the automatic parking/handbrake isn’t working, and both the ABS and automatic handbrake warning lights are on. The ESP as well.
