Hi all I fitted a gear selector lever yesterday, after the AA was called out and said it could be the column selector that could be the problem, went on a 3 hour and after a 3 hour journey with no problem, but coming back home it decided to act up again displaying the number 4 gear (not showing the a4 display and wouldn't go above 3rd gear (limp mode probably) after a few attempts it came back to life and got us home on the 3 hour journey, very strange, but I'm now thinking this could be a gearbox ECU issue? Right or something else? |

You can shift above 3rd gear by selecting neutral then back into A, the gearbox will select the next appropriate gear, repeat until you are in 6. It WILL change down on its own. The relay in the engine bay fuse box (at the front, on its own, 35amp) overheats and becomes troublesome. It the power relay to the gearbox selectors. Take it out and look for burn marks. If in doubt replace it. |
