We all seem to suffer the " gearbox faulty, handbrake faulty etc etc" at some point in time. Recently I have been using my aircon all day long on mainly short journeys of 15 mins or so (40deg here). The next day on first start up, invariably, it starts, handbrake off and THEN the errors appear. Switch off, reset, start up, back they come again! However if I travel the short distance up my driveway (150m) and switch off, the errors are gone for the rest of the day. Maybe this day (much cooler in the morning, less use of the A/C) there is slightly more poke in the battery, I have no errors. I have an LED charge rate display on a cigarette lighter plug. When A/C is on and the blower on full tilt, the LEDs dont go to the max. So....battery is not getting 14.2V for most of the day. Hence the errors the following day. I summise on start up the crank voltage drops to such an extent the BSI/BSM says "Oh Ohh, low voltage to components, fault registered!" Ignore the message and after 30seconds of engine running and 14.2V seen, a restart means the BSI/BSM sees a much higher voltage and is content for you to go. Now your gonna say "Iffy battery or connection". Nope, newish battery (6 months) and spotless above battery fuse board and we aint had rain for 3 months and nor has the car been washed(disgusting I know but we aint got water, plus its against the law!") In summary: Battery voltage and or condition/usage seems to me to be the root cause. Check your terminals and crank voltage drop. C'mon, lets av ya then! |

I've had the usual list of random nessages when the battery is failing. Though I've found if the car has been sitting for a number of days that on first start up I get some random errors back. The battery is still farly new, so can only assume it's the cranking voltage just upsetting it all enough to have a meltdown. Generally the fault dont clear, but clearing them with diagbox sorts it for months until it happens again. |

vexorg: I agree there. Today I did a thorough diag test through all of the systems. BSI showed: Low voltage to ECU and a whole list of associated errors, the ones that show up on the dash. Battery voltage is good. I looked at the battery positive quick release clamp, fine on the outside, corroded on the inside. A post clean up and a wire tooth brush to the the inside of the clamp, then coated with some terminal clean stuff and refitted. All codes erased. Only a permanent BSI internal fault remains but the car has always had that. I'll see what tomorrow brings. |
