Hi, I thought I'd start this on a fresh post, hope that's ok My 2008 C4 Picasso 1.6 vtr passed it's MOT in April with flying colours but prior to this (and still now) I frequently get error messages but they only affect the car for short periods of time. I've been monitoring this issue and I'm wondering if I'm getting false sensor readings. I can start off as normal with the car in auto. Then after a random amount of time I get the following warnings in the order of 'Handbrake fault', 'ESR/ASR fault', ABS Fault', 'Gearbox Fault, then the car drops out of auto and into limp mode. Sometimes the faults will clear straight away and kick back to auto. Other times it will kick back in after a few minutes or not until I've got home and started the car again. I've also noticed I can change a gear with the paddle when in auto mode. Seems very strange. The only part that has been replaced is the fuse board to the right of the battery, part no: 9664055680. This was replaced because there was corrosion on the underside of the board which prevented the car from starting. I'm sure the car must be mechanically sound or it wouldn't have passed the MOT? Very frustrating, any guidance gratefully received! |

Do you know the age of the battery? This is often the first thing to consider even if it starts okay. Get it checked by reputable company. |

Those kind of errors can be triggered by faulty/out of position break light switch, which is behind brake pedal. | ||||

I have changed the break light switch and parking brake switch but none of the faults have cleared? Is there anything else I can try as at the moment I am unable to pay garage rates to get it sorted. I have also changed break light switch on mine. And I would occasionally get those error codes during the drive. I went to my mechanic, he positioned switch in the correct way, never had those errors again. I have probably positioned it wrong or not completely tight on its place. I would get error when braking but sometimes even while driving. Another problem might be a sensor on the ABS ring. One of the wheels is not giving proper value regarding speed. That can be checked only with proper diagnostic tool. Diagnostic can show if some of the wheel has abnormal value or no value at all if the car is going. |

Make sure your battery positive clamp and post are shiny clean. If not on cranking, the voltage supply to the ECU is too low and throws up those faults. First thing in the morning is favourite or after heavy power usage (headlights, wipers, blower). | ||||
