Had some intermittent faults of late: Gearbox Faulty Suspension Fault Parking Brake Fault - I got this replaced This has caused the car to not start and then it would. But now it’s not started for a few days and it wont tock over and is in economy mode. I feel the battery is completely dead so want to rule that out first. I have bought a battery charger but can’t find a definitive of how to charge it. Do i need to find the actual negative or can I just use the positive and ground the neg? Any help is appreciated to try get it going again - it is due an MOT bit can’t get it going to take it. |

Negative doesn't have to be on the battery. On C4P in front, there is a metal piece which is for battery charging, starting, etc. check for something like that

So I have only just got round to trying because of work. I left it on for 11 hours and the needle on the charger went to just below a quarter from the end. Reconnected and put the key in. It come out of economy mode but would not crank still. Radio come on for less than 5 mins while I tried and it went back to economy mode That saying it needs a new battery or further underlining issues? Again any advice is greatly accepted. |

It would better to have those digital "smart" chargers. But, by your description, battery seems done

Once a modern battery goes flat, its life is just about up. You say the vehicle is 2010. So it should be on its third (or even fourth) battery by now as they really only last about 6 years - probably less if you have a diesel and auto stop-start. Go to proper auto electrician and have a full battery check. Brace yourself for the price of a new one. |

So I have replaced the battery and still no cranking. Changed a few of the main fuses but still nothing. Checked the OBD and comes up no faults but going into economy mode quickly again. Anybody any ideas or had similar? - Click Here - - Click Here - |

Are we talking 6 speed automated gear box? On the C4 you could try hot wiring the starter from the battery with someone else at the wheel (who can drive). Ignition on, dog clip onto the starter solenoid connection, stand to the side and touch the battery positive. If its in gear it may jolt forward and drive off, if its not it should just start up. If it doesnt turn over then the starter is knackered. |

Revisiting this. I never got the ignition switch. I have had the RAC out today to try do diagnostic but they only had 30 mins slot and said it needs more time. Need it taking on a truck to a garage to diagnose. Any idea of cost? |

Sounds like the gearbox is in gear and the engine is locked out of starting. If youve not tried what i suggested above try this: Engine bay fuse box, remove cover. At the front is a relay (black or green etc). Its a 35amp device that powers the gearbox selectors. Hook it out. Are the pins showing signs of heat damage, especially around the plastic. You could try tapping it against summat and refit it. Make sure your ignition is on and selector in neutral. Plug the relay back in, you may here the gear selectors reset themselves. If they do, now try to start the engine. Yes, dodgy relay, no, dead relay. Theyre only about £15. PS: Your positive quick release clamp to the battery must me shiny and clean. |
