Hi all,

I need to replace the battery on our 2017 c4 GP. It's a diesel with start stop.

I can easily do the switch myself but noticed that the manual says a mechanic should do it. Concerned that if I change the battery specs (which I want to), the software needs to be updated.

We live in Sweden with cold winters. The diesel heater is draining the battery and the start stop system hasn't worked for a couple of years. Therefore, I'd like to replace with a 80A cgm battery.

Any advice on this? More specifically, 80a batt ok and is there a need for a mechanic to update software settings when battery specs are changed?

Thanks!
Alex

So far as I know there is no need for a software/setting update. The language settings may need to be set back to your home country after the battery is disconnected. (usually defaults to French)
Regarding Stop/Start when the battery capacity reduces below a set limit Stop/Start is disabled so if the battery isn't being charged sufficiently the Stop/Start will disable.
Being some years since you noticed it then that would be an indication of the battery health. AGM batteries can keep going for some time after the Stop/Start is disabled so it may not be an indication you need to change the battery spec. It should be correct for your region out the factory. Make sure the battery charging is check as well as changing the battery.

Changing an AGM battery is not like the old undo and replace, my car was a 2015 DS4 with stop start but will have the same principles have a look at - Click Here - for a few pointers.

Thanks. I don't have the specs of the battery that is in the car now, but suspect that it's not agm.

I've seen the procedure and it seems pretty straightforward. Still, the two things that make me hesitate are
* potential necessity of updating software settings
And
* what amps to go for. To me, going for 80 instead of 70/72 seems to be a smart move, but I'm still in need of some community guidance.

I have changed the battery in my 2014 blue hdi 2.0 and no need for software resetting etc.

Mine was a 70ah / 760CCA battery size code 096.

Car will analyse the new battery and my start stop etc started working almost straight away.

Looking up the correct battery on Tayna.com it seems that the correct battery for your car is the 096 AGM at 70ah / 760cca as above. If you want to find a battery of more power be careful to find one with the same dimensions and the same connections. If you search for 096 AGM you will be able to get the dimensions from suppliers advertising them

Good thread!

Interestingly the (massive!) battery on my Skoda Octavia diesel with stop-start gave indication of impending failure, not by any dedicated warning message, but by closing down the bluetooth, the cruise control and few other secondary features as well as the stop-start.

The replacemant battery was expensive (around £175 from ATS) but the original when tested showed about 40% capacity and just about 12V after some 6+ years of usage.
