I know this sounds a tad OTT but yesterday when I went to clear the mist from the window with the single wipe option it ran for 6 or 7 sweeps then parked up over the screen after several attempts, then they wouldn't return to the park position. Trying them on normal sweep mode, swept OK, but still parks all over the place. Eventually, more by luck, they were close enough to the park position. Then no wiper operation and slip into reverse, the rear wiper sets off by magic.
So would it be fair to assume the wiper control stalk is a tad dappy and needs replacing or something else?

Probably the stop switchin the motor is faulty.

If it's the same motor as the DS4 then look at around £400 or more for a new one!

I have to say the price is a real eye-opener, and like a few things I've looked for seem in short supply at the breakers.
So a problem with the front wiper motor would also trip the rear wiper to active whenever you select reverse gear even when front are not in action?
That sort of made me think perhaps the wiper stalk control was faulty. But I think I'm looking for the easiest solution.

Reverse will be activated, I believe if automatic wipers are activated. But I'm not sure if it works if front do not start automatically. If you turn wipers off, they have to go back to their start position. Im not sure that stalk is issue here.

On mine (DS4) the rear wiper comes on in reverse if the front wipers are on (auto or manual)

Yes, my wipers did activate if the front were on and reverse gear was engaged. Friday front wipers off, engaged reverse and bingo the rear started working without any reason. The front well they don't do single sweep now they do as they like six or seven sweeps when it should be just one sweep. Then they don't park back at the bottom of the screen, they can be across the screen or sort of close to the parked position. It all started Friday, so at least I'm sure it's the same problem that's triggering front and rear wipers going dappy. I was hoping that maybe the wiper stalk was at fault and the more I think about it, I'm leaning towards the wiper motor maybe being faulty. Am I correct, thinking the wipers have a motor on each wiper arm.

On the older style motors, there used to be some little arms that ran over a copper surface to signal positions.
They could get bend or lazy and not connect anymore.
If they dont work, try to see if one can be dismantled and cleaned.
Or else try a used unit, these cars are every where.

Anyone know what the wiring is to the front wiper motor. Looking to check that switch is ok and take it from there.

Is yours a single motor and links to each side or two motors?

To be honest, vexorg I didn't know there might be two motors and was surprised when I heard they might have two. At the moment I've only got one working hand, so haven't had a look. However, I've seen online how to get to the wipers and as soon as possible I'll have a look.
I was told it might be good to get any codes read, which has thrown up a thought would a cheap OBDII reader do or should it be specific model relative software /reader
