Hi. Can someone please help. Its just a quick question about the handbrake light in my C4 Grand Picasso 2011.
Is it normal for the handbrake (P) to stay on after the vehicle is locked up. If not what could be the problem. I only got it yesterday. The red (P) on the dash and also on the handbrake button thing as well

They stay until electronics goes into sleep mode. If you unlock car, open door, it will light again

Thanks. I parked up at home an hour ago and just gone to check. The lights have now gone out. When i jumped in the car this morning it wouldn't start so i thought the dash lights had stayed on overnight and flattened the battery. The ignition just clicked when i tried to start it up. It did start eventually so im thinking battery or alternator??

Well, it could be battery, if you don't have any warnings, that something is faulty.

Thanks. Ive only had the car a couple of days and I've not seen any other warning lights on the dash as yet. Im going to take it for a good run down the M1 to see if everything is ok. Thanks again for all the advice 👍

No problem, they are sensitive to a bad battery, so, if you have possibility, charge it when you can.

OMG. Tried to start it up again this afternoon and just got a 'click, click'. No warning beeps but a message on the dash display "ENGINE FAILURE:REPAIR NEEDED".
Well cheesed off now. Is there any way i can find out the problem without having to spend loads ££££.
I cant even try to get the battery out because of the components needed to be remove or disconnected from the engine even with the help ofthe you tube video. Just wondering if it is the battery. No other warnings or error messages.
I hope someone can help me out.

Can you get a charger and leave the battery on charge for the day. (as long as possible)
You only need to connect to the +ve terminal of the battery the -ve can go to the earth stud at the front of the engine bay.
Do that and try it again straight after disconnecting the charger. That may give an idea if it is the battery.

I will try that, thanks. I have previously disconnected the closest terminal (which if i recall is the + terminal, closest to the front of the car, please correct me if i am wrong!) Gave it a quick rub with a bit of sandpaper then reconnected the terminal to the battery and it gave a spark. Tried starting the car again and it did start up. Left it running for a few minutes, switched off the engine and started it up again with no errors on the dash display. Went down this evening as it had been sat overnight, and again it wouldnt start but this time with the dash displaying "ENGINE FAILURE:REPAIR NEEDED" message again. This makes me think it is a naff battery. Will keep you updated with any (or none!) progress.

If there is really a serious engine problem, it would appear each time you try to start a car. I once removed battery from car to recharge it since I live in a flat and no garage. Pain in the butt, but if you have charger and yard, you can charge it without removing it. But I would suggest to buy new battery. I have a good experience with Exide premium (carbon boost) battery. Very persistent, last year due to Covid, I didn't start a car for a month, maybe a bit more. Battery was low, so we started it with cables. Drove around 100km, and then charge it on smart charger. Battery still works great, even on a load test has shown that is still healty.

Good news. Turned out it was the battery so thanks everyone. Had a new battery fitted, no way was I going to attempt that job! Rather expensive though, but all’s well, oh apart from the radio and the rear parking sensors not working now. Groan, there’s always something eh? Oh and the tailgate trim finally fell off.🙄☹️
