So we bought a second hand 2012 C4 GP about two months ago. 2.0 150 HDI 16V. So far, all good. Have been busy, so as it was just serviced from the garage, didn't think to check the oil levels, but did so last night. Now, as far as I'm concerned, this is broken right? ![]() The dipstick we had on our previous 1.6 GP was longer than this. So. At present the oil is ok on the dashboard and I'm not worried, but what next? I'm presuming the previous owner either broke it and left the old part out of the tube, or its's still in the tube, or it's in the sump. Presuming a replacement dipstick would work, and if it goes all the way in, I'm ok. Or is this just what they look like on the 2.0's? Cheers, Nick |

- Click Here - for lots of detail. If the bottom end is plastic, it should end up in the oil filter. Your dealer should know all about this and give you a free replacement. |

It's unlikely to ever make it to the filter, there will be a strainer on the oil pick up and then a pump in the way. Chances are that it'll just float around the oil forever more, until you take the sump off.

Thanks everyone. They were a second hand car dealer, so no chance of getting anything off them. I'll buy a replacement, and see if I can get a metal one. I'm not taking the sump off for that, so as long as it's not going to be a problem, I'll leave as is. |

There should be a low oil warning on the system, and no oil warning. There is on mine anyway, gives a backup until you sort the dipstick.

I see my posting was August 2007. I sold the car in 2011, after it had travelled at least 50,000 miles more without a problem.

I have a 2006 C4GP, gave it love for a few years, then The dipsticks plastic end vanished, so I bought one from Amazon - too short, bought another, which disappeared immediately on first use, then a third, same. I currently just add half a pint whenever I start the car and the warning, 'Oil level too low', appears on the dash. It's worked for two years now, though I'm concerned: does the dash warning come up when the oil's a bit low, or seriously low.. should I add a whole pint each time? Note: There's no oil leak from underneath, but the oil filler cap won't lock in place and has occasionally been AWOL entirely, hence a little oil loss and the warnings, so I've rigged a wire coat hanger to pin it down (This is oil cap #4 with a spare in the boot).. is this an issue anyone's encountered?) |
