I'm a Newbie so please go easy if htis is not hte right thead to post in, i'd appreciate direction if it is not, thanks.

I have read and digested all the information on rear hub nut torque of 280-300NM
however i am confused as to how people have arrived at that value;
Citroen tech. doc says 9 +/- 0.9 m.daN, angular tighten to 29 +/- 5deg.

My question is how does 9 m.daN convert to a torque in NM, as i beleive m.daN is a force?

Thanks very much for your understanding and help here.

NM (should be Nm) - newton metres is the same as m.daN time 10.

'da' is the SI prefix for deca, so 10N = 1daN

Nm is also a kind of force, but an angluar force, it's the newtons of force applied to 1m of leverage.

So 9 +/- 0.9 m.daN, angular tighten to 29 +/- 5deg is 90Nm + 30 degrees, or probably as tight as you can go (unless you are the hulk's brother).
Though 30 degrees seems a bit small compared to other cars I've done, even with the 90Nm pre-torque. It's only about 65lbft in real money.
