I'm trying to bleed my clutch fluid however there's no bleed screw/nipple on the slave cylinder, only a bleed "orifice".

This is a picture I've taken; - Click Here -

Here's a picture from a Citroen workshop manual (it doesn't tell you how to bleed it); - Click Here -

Here's a picture of the whole slave cylinder for a different perspective; - Click Here -

It doesn't make any sense that the rubber cap is all that's separating the clutch fluid from escaping because it would blow it off when the clutch pedal is operated. There must be something I'm missing here; is there a bleeding point elsewhere? Is there a pressure valve in that orifice which operates at a higher pressure than the system so you need a powerful vacuum bleeder? Please help

This was mentioned on a previous thread however it didn't go into enough detail. Any advice or explanation from a forum veteran would be greatly appreciated.

I've looked in the Citroen workshop manual and there are 4 different types of slave cylinder. 2 have bleed orifices and 2 have bleed screws.

Here's the pictures of them from the workshop manual: - Click Here -

There's a second point that the main pipe clips in on, that allows the pipe to move in and out of the fitting by about 1cm.

Put a clear small pipe on the bleed point.
You can do it by vacuum if you have one of the hand pumps, or two man method, like the brakes.

Two man method is:
Pull pipe back.
Press clutch pedal (watching air bubbles in bleed pipe).
Push pipe in.
Release clutch pedal.

Then keep repeating until no air bubbles.

It took me a lot longer than expected to get all the air out.

Mine was the double clipped one, that uses the second clip point, there must be something similar in the single one, but on the fitting itself.

What engine/gearbox is that?
I've checked a few picassos and they only show 3 types of slave, double clip, quarter turn, and hex bleed screw.

Thanks for the quick reply, you're a legend.

So if I press the spring in and pull the main pipe out by about 1cm that'll open up the bleed orifice?

Is there a 'stop' when I pull the main pipe out, in other words if I'm a little too rough the pipe will come completely out and spill out fluid?

I'm not exactly sure as I cant see that single clip type in the manuals I have. That's why the engine/gearbox would have been useful to know.

It a 1.6 BlueHDi 120hp with a 6 speed manual gearbox (ML6C I believe). I'll give it a go now and update this post for the benefit of the community. Thanks again......

...it a Mk2 2015 C4 Picasso. The third picture on the first post shows the single clip slave cylinder from an online parts shop which matches my pictures.

I think my ebay copy isn't new enough, doesn't list the blue engines.

I suspect if you try pull the pipe out about 1cm, then try clip it then you might find it'll move in and out enough.

Or we find someone with a newer EPC

The workshop manual I'm using looks the same format as yours. I bought it from a website (can't remember which one). It's titled "C4 PICASSO (B78)" and dated 6 Feb 2017. It's 2238 pages long, in PDF format but doesn't have any search function. After looking again I've found the instructions to DRAIN the system, they read;

- Press on the clip (2) and pull on the hydraulic pipe (3) over approximately 5 mm to free the bleed aperture.
- Allow the brake fluid to flow out by gravity.
- Push down on the hydraulic pipe (3) to block the bleed aperture.
- Refit the brake fluid reservoir cap......

It's raining so I'll have to try bleeding it another day.

I've done the job which is as you said vexorg. The difference is there's only one spring on my slave cylinder.

I connected a vacuum pump to the bleed orifice with a little vacuum pumped up, then pressed the spring in which allowed the main pipe to retract about 1cm. The fluid then freely got sucked out. I kept the vacuum applied whilst topping up the brake/clutch fluid reservoir. This allowed me to suck out 200ml of fluid before having to push the pipe back in, and I repeated this twice. Oddly the fluid was slightly green.

A top tip is the make sure the spring is FULLY pressed in to allow the pipe to pull out a little. I was yanking on the pipe a bit but it was only when I FULLY pressed it in that the pipe easily and freely came out.

All good!
