I've been meaning to replace the hub (pivot) balljoint for some time since there's a small bit of play. Added to that some new knocking it seemed time to do the lower arms too, and arb links (again!)

The balljoint looked a bit awkward to do since it needs to be tightened up to 230Nm. The whole thing just flops about on the car, and the formal method is to remove the whole hub and secure it for tightening.

As I didn't have a suitable place to hold it on the bench, and couldn't be arsed taking it all off, I decided to make my own hub holder:

Worked very well even if it looks a bit medieval. You really do need the extra leverage to get it fully tightened.

Just need to clean up the gearbox oil, change the gearbox oil and hopefully the new knocks will be gone...

Just to finish off, cleaned the gearbox of the wet oil that has been on it, I always like how the wet oil does such a good job of protecting the metal from the elements:

I forgot how easy it is to drain and fill the gearbox, easy if you have a specially modified tool to clear the subframe. Airbox out to see the breather on the left:

And fill with a bit of pipe and funnel into the breather:

I measured the oil that came out, 1.8l, given I lost a small amount when getting the driveshaft out of the hub, then it's not far off the 1.9l it should be. It's a tiny amount over 45k miles since the last change. Will see how it is in a month or two.
