I think my lower ball joint has gone. There is fluid around the rubber and there is a knocking sound when I drive over pot holes or bumps, and if so can someone please show me what a lower ball joint looks like? Thanks Dave |

Must ask - why are you asking? If you do not know what a ball joint is and what a boot cover is I guess you are not going to replace the item yourself. It is as david says 7 - but only the boot cover not the whole joint |

Can you buy the boot on it's own? I'd be wary of that anyway, all the road dirt will have gotten in there and wont be doing much good. They dont look that easy to change on the car. I'm planning to do mine and cant be bothered taking the whole strut off, so will make up some angle iron with holes in it to hold the hub while tightening it. It's something like 150lbft, and that's quite a lot if the whole strut is floating about. |

Hi David - yes you can buy boot covers of all sizes, they often degrade and crack so if you spot the cover with cracks you can swap it before it fails completely. I keep a stock of various sizes in so I can change one if I find it degrading when servicing. Goes without saying you can do the same with track rod ends. With the addition of the knocking sound I would suspect the jiont has failed though in this case, I misread the op oops |

The thread was slightly hijacked, but I'd go for ARB links first, simpler to fit and more likely to knock. | ||
