My Grand C4 has horrible squealing from the brakes with only 28k km. Based on what I read here, it sounds like this is a known issue with the car. Anything I can do to fix it, given that I have no mechanical ability? If necessary, what do you recommend for replacement pads for the car? Bosch, for example? Thanks! |

Thanks! 28k (~20k miles) is, in my view, unacceptable, assuming you drive fairly normally. It may be worth having a word with your local agent. |

I have changed all discs and pads. Went with ATE, no sound, or anything. Not sure how ATE us ranked in UK. Pads will be good at least 40 000km, discs at least 100 000km. From mine driving style

Check how hot the disc or wheel is after a drive. If it's a stciky caliper then a recon unit is the simplest option. I never had much luck stripping down the pistons when younger, as no matter how clean it looked, the problem came back. Exchange calipers are pretty cheap. If it's not sticking, then it'll probably just need a good clean up. |

From mine driving style Still on my original discs and pads at over 50k miles/ 80k km. Possibly down to my location as I tend to do quite a lot of miles with little need for braking. |

The Alps do provide an interesting driving experience with lots of switchbacks and steep roads. Besides that, I am pretty easy on the car. It is a month from 3 years. Maybe they will cover it under warrany. |

I believe that if front discs are worn about 1.5mm or 2mm, they need to be changed. Noise usually comes from bad pads

The car was inspected by the local dealership. They say the nose is normal and that I have 70% wear on the brakes. I might have 7-10k km left on them. Time to find an independent brake shop. |

Noise is definitely not normal. I don't know if you have some warranty on car. I would check brakes ASAP, possible just need to reolace brake pads.

They are most definitely screwing with me. This is the hard part being a Yank living in Switzerland. I don't know enough French to argue with the dealership. It still has a month on the warranty. Brakes should not wear this fast! |
