2010 Grand Picasso has failed MOT due to broken coil spring on drivers side. Halfords have said its £213 to replace but thst seems excessive. The coil Spring is £30-£40 i believe so i was wondering what the expected labour time should be. Any advice gratefully received.

Don't know about the cost, but really you should replace both sides at the same time.

£213 is typical of Halfords prices, scandulous. I had a broken spring on my 2008 VTR and had both springs replaced at a local garage for £180 including labour. Its half hour labour each side.

To do the springs you have to take off the wipers & the scuttle panel to get to the top mounts which are set back under the windscreen, thats about the longest part of the job, any decent mechanic or DIY'r could do it, as above replace both springs & would be a good idea to replace the top mounts as well.

And wheel alignment too after.

I'd expect more that that, give the poor condition of the threads on mine when they were done.

My son used Halfrauds for a 'free' mot on his C4 - it failed on rear spring broken - it cost him £160 for a fix and was done in less than an hour since they told him it failed. I did the other side - spring cost £15 and half an hour labour. Front springs are harder to do but 1 to 1.5 hours labour is all I would expect and maybe £30? ish for the spring. I agree that it would be much better to do both at the same time - if you can afford
