Hi All,

The ' Particulate additive low' message flagged up so I purchased a bottle. When the pouch was removed from under the car it had a small tear in it. Can anyone tell me where I can purchase a replacement bag as I can't find them anywhere. There are some stupid price ones on ebay but I'm not paying a hundered quid for a plastic bag with 30 quids worth of fluid in it!

Help please!!!

Breakers, ebay or Citroen?

You'll need diagbox to reset the counter too.

Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is this Particle Pouch? haven't heard of them before so wondered if its something i should be aware of for future servicing?
Got my new battery fitted today so back on the road again so having a day out in the mountains tomorrow to take some moody photos so don't need sunny weather

The pouch contains something called EOLYS fluid. This is a soution that is injected into the diesel fuel. The exhaust goes out through a particle filter which removes soot particles, and gradually blocks the filter. The fluid assists in regenerating the particle filter by burning off the soot. If the fluid runs out, the filter will not regenerate and will ultimately block.

Once the fluid is replenished and the counter reset, there should be plenty of fluid as it will probably last in excess of 80,000 miles. In fact our C3 has covered nearly 120,000 miles and is still on the original ffuid.

How do you reset the counter? is there a dash option? or does it need special diag software?

It needs Lexia or Diagbox, both specialist Citroen software.

Cheers I have never heard of them before, I have a 1.6HDI with 58,000 on the clock, I have sorted out a local garage here to do my servicing etc they aren't a Citroen dealer is this part of the servicing procedure to check this or maybe MOT? either way will the car alert me when it needs attention or is it something for us to check out?. Sorry for all the questions but as the cars in great condition i want to keep it that way as i love driving it.
Cheers

There is no servicing procedure. The car will probably come up with a warning saying something like 'risk of particle filter blocking'. At 58,000 miles you are likely to be a long way off routine replacement unless you are in the habit of adding small quantities of diesel to the fuel tank.

Thanks for the input guys. I have looked on ebay but can only find the pouch and fluid, I really just need the pouch. Like I said, this is an overpriced plastic bag which was probably made for a couple of quid!
Does the particulate filter not regenerate like on other vehicles?

Cheers.

Your low EOLYS warning has come early. I did 100,000 miles without any warning. The trick is to fill the tank full every time and refill when almost empty. That'll be over 55 litres. Frequent re-fuelling with small amounts is not good as every time the filler cap is opened, EOLYS is squirted in. Short journeys when the engine doesn't get hot doesn't help either - so if you live on Guernsey, go petrol or electric.

Try a non-franchised Citroen/Peugeot dealer if you want to avoid main dealer prices.

Some great information on here, I am very surprised at how good the MPG is on my 1.6HDI compared to my Focus which got 31mpg for a 1ltre engine my C4GP must be doing close to 50mpg.
Thanks again for the info

I agree, much has been learned about the dpf!

I've just had an offer to have the fluid pouch removed and the system programmed to ignore the fact it isn't there? Given that most other diesel engines don't have this expensive additive can anyone see this being a problem. The dpf will regenerate right?

Thanks,

I remember the days when you filled up with fuel you always added a shot of "RedX" so don't see why you can't do the same with EOLYS or a fuel additive. Every few months I give mine some "Cataclean"

Thanks,

Wrong!

Without the additive, theexhaust won't get hot enough, soot won't burn off during a regen & you'll end up with "Risk of particle filter blocking".
