Hi, If there air conditioning compressor unit is no longer working after 4 years, is there a basis for arguing that it should be replaced for free or at a reduced cost even though its out of warranty?

How much should I be looking at being charged for parts and for labour?

Thanks

I doubt you have any chance of claiming under warranty I'm afraid and I wouldn't go to a Citroen dealership due to the high labour rates, but an Independent Air Con specialist in your area for advice

There's a few variations on the theme depending on year and model, but a new compressor from your Citroën dealer is £440 +VAT = £517

Add on to that labour and few other minor parts, and it's big bill, say £700+

Have you had it diagnosed as a faulty compressor? Or are you saying that the compressor isn't kicking in hence assuming a faulty compressor. - Faulty compressors are pretty rare to be fair! It's more than likely there is little or no gas in the system, therefore not allowing the compressor to kick in.

Thanks all. The diagnosis came from a Citroen dealer after they looked at the car. However, I'll get it double-checked!

It's definitely the compressor.

Do you think I have a chance of saying that the compressor was not of satisfactory quality dying after only 4 years?

Also, where's a good independent car air conditioning specialist in Leicester? Thanks.

It's a mechanical component, they wear and break, some faster than others

The warranty is 3 years, the car is 4 years old so your going to struggle trying to claim

You have been unfortunate I'm afraid, but sometimes car components fail

Hi
I am in the same boat. Let the car yesterday to the dealer to check the noise I get when I switch on AC and they are saying condenser need to be replaced and they have given a quotation of 280 Euro + Labur. The car is 3.5 years old and they are saying it is out of warranty as I bought the vehicle from a 3rd party. Are you sure Citroen cars have 4 years warranty? How to check if your car is covered under warranty?

My vehicle is 2015 June registered in UK and then imported to Ireland in Aug 2018. Does change in country impact warranty?

The warranty is 3 years so yours is no longer covered.

I would ask an air con specialist to quote.
