I have a C4 Picasso 1.2 Puretech which is 12 months old. Took it to my main dealer this morning for its first service. The stop start ECO system rarely works, even after I have had a long run. Garage said that as I had done low mileage and as I did mainly short journeys the battery was not at the level to allow the ECO system to kick in. They suggested that I leave it with them overnight and they would give the battery an over night charge. Seems a lot of hassle and certainly inconvenience for me. They were not going to charge a fee for this. Is it possible for me to charge the battery at home using a very old charger? Will I do more harm than good with a modern battery? Or will the garage have some sort of super charger to get it topped up. Don't really want to take it back overnight. If I leave it and the ECO system continues not to work how much impact will it have on my petrol consumption? For a modern car a bit disappointed that I have to go to these lengths! Any advice please. Kind regards, Dave |

You can charge it yourself if you wish but yes the ‘eco’ seems to work less frequently than it works! Personally I wouldn’t worry about it.

I agree with FB'comments. The stop start will not save you any significany amout of fuel as when it is working it will only be stopped for a few seconds most times at traffic lights and the amount of fuel your car uses at tickover is negligable. Also if you are doing mostly short journeys with lights, aircon, wipers etc on then the battery will not charge enough There are a few things that detrmine how the Stop/Start works...Engine Temp, Battery codition ( needs to be above 70 per cent charge I think I have read) and electrical load. |

Hi Dave as others have said, it very rarely works on short runs, even after a long run 30 miles at m/w speed mine fails to work, then if and when it's only seconds so very little fuel saved.

Hi, I've just looked at mine as I was wondering about the same issue. My car has done 5000 miles (4000 of them by someone else and the remaining 1000 by me at mostly motorway speeds) and according to the trip the Stop/start has never activated! Time shows 0000 The Green Icon flashes 3 times as indicated in the manual, but its never stopped. Interestingly, my old C4 (64 reg Exclusive+) always stopped, unless it was very cold outside. |

If you are looking at the figure on the instantaneous fuel consumption, and I don't know where else you will see this, the time figure resets every time you restart the car! |

It will read 00:00 all the time, if, as you say, "The Green Icon flashes 3 times as indicated in the manual, but its never stopped."
