Hi all,

My wife has a 2010 C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 Hdi Vtr 7 seater. I have forked out a few quid over the last 12 months and recently replaced the clutch for a second time in 9 months (poor job last time around lesson learned)
I was advised to convert to a solid clutch and move away from the dual mass one, during the job it was noticed that the gearbox needed to be replaced.
Please note I agreed to put a second hand box in.

Now the car drives fine and a couple of drop links were replaced too so it all feels well however the issue is that at about 120kph the revs are at about 3200 which feels high, its a 5 speed box and manual but it feels like it needs to go into 6th?

Is it possible that he may have put a petrol gearbox in by mistake (is that even possible)

The mechanic said the revs were fine just looking for a second opinion if you can please....

Could it be a gearbox from a C4 hatch or coupe with a different final drive ratio to the C4GP?

I thought that by 2010 that the C4GP was fitted with a 6 speed box. I don't know whether the ratios varied much between the 1.6 and 2.0 HDi, but all of our 2.0 HDis ran at about 2000rpm at 70mph, so 3000rpm at 120kph (~75mph) seem very low geared. As I have no idea how the car's system works out its speed, I wonder whether the speedo reading is accurate with the new gearbox.

Just doesn't feel right, 3rd gear feels like 2nd, 4th like 3rd and so on. The revs even sound high in 5th at 120kph.

Is there a way I can clarify if the right box is in the car before I challenge the mechanic as I am sure he won't be to keen to rectify the issue at his cost ??

Did your car have a 5 speed box before it was changed?

It would be interesting if someone with a 5 speed 1.6 HDi could post the rpms at, say, 70mph. I don't think I have ever exceeded 3000 rpm on any of the 5 diesel Citroens we have owned, as they are/have been geared at ~ 2000 rpm at 70mph.

I know it isn't much of a comparison but I'm getting just over 2200 rpm (one notch above the 2000 mark on the dash display) at an indicated 70mph (indicated GPS speed is a bit less) on my C4GP which has the 6-speed EGS box.

Hope it helps any.

Thanks all, back to the mechanic tomorrow, I took the C4GP out for a motorway spin last night and the car was about 3200 rpm on 70mph and the high revs from the engine was quite noticeable.

Expecting a lot of deflection from the mechanic but has to be done I suppose.

Thanks for the insight
