Hi all, ive searched the forums for days now and i still havent come across anybody with the same noises that i am hearing from my car when pulling away in 1st gear and then into 2nd. I have watched numerous youtube videos regarding faults with the egs gearbox and listened to loads of sound clips, many being a whining sound, but the sound i hear which seems to come from the passenger side of the car, sounds like a slipping belt sort of sound or a screeching pulley for want of a better description. Im almost certain its not the auxillary belt or pulley that i was hoping it was as that is on the drivers side of the car and it only happens under load and lasts until i ease of the accelerator. Also, ive noticed today that another noise has appeared upon deceleration. Its kind of a rattle noise like plastic scraping on metal that slows as the car comes to a halt. All this has happened in the past 2 days, ive only had the car for around a month and it has a full service, new LUK clutch???, new brakes all round and flew through mot the day before i picked it up. Was a mint driver for the best part of a month, now it sounds like a back of spanners!! Please Help!

**UPDATE**

Just checked under car and ive noticed there is a drip of oil coming from the gearbox and also it looks like some has sprayed onto the exhaust.too, could this be the issue?

Have a look around the air doseur, if that's leaking then it might drip oil on to the aux belt causing it to slip

Thanks for the reply Rusky. It does make sense what you are saying, there is oil around the air doseur. The reason i originally ruled out the Aux belt was because the noise was coming from the passenger side of the car and was only evident while driving in gear, not when revved in neutral. I’ll change the belt and check the pulley but the oil from the gearbox itself and the noise coming from passengers side is getting me a bit worried though.

Had the car checked out, the noise is definitely coming from the gearbox, I’ve changed gearbox oil and that’s made no difference, there was only a litre of oil in it though and I’ve topped it up to 2 litres. The guy who had a look at it says to get rid cos will cause nothing but grief and didn’t want the job, is it really not worth fixing?? It’s a beautiful car and drove mint before, it changes through all the gears flawlessly and pulls well in each gear, just sounds rough in low gears at slow speed.

Hi, hard to tell the cause of the problem without hearing it, perhaps if you were to record a video someone maybe able to be off more help.

Its a bit of a long shot, but I had a similar noise which made the car sound more like a tractor and managed to trace it back to the air maf sensor not be connected properly/ rubber seal gasket was worn, new seal couple of pounds from Citroen managed to sort and car is much much quieter.

Having said that if theres oil dripping from the gearbox, could you not go back to the person who replaced the clutch. The egs box is a bit complicated and it can be hard to find someone to actually touch it (i have one myself). Other options would be a clutch/gearbox reprogramme as that may have not been done after the clutch was replaced. This helped a quite a bit with mine. The other thing to look at would be the egs clutch actuator, the oil pipe sometimes leaks off those and sometimes fixing that or changing the oil on that may help.

For now the reprogramme seems to have helped for mine....it really needs to go to a gearbox/clutch specialist...who after having a chat you feel they know what they are talking about. How much did it cost to change the clutch....did u change the dual mass flywheel too?

I feel your pain its a lovely car but problems with the gearbox can ruin it, the main problem is finding people who are prepared to really investigate....the main dealer will always says clutch etc and that costs a small fortune!

Thanks for the info about reprogramming gearbox, I’ll give that a try, I have Lexia and Diagbox. The clutch was done before we bought the car, we have receipts for the parts replaced but no other info as to what else was done and no mention of a flywheel change. Interesting about the maf sensor though, did it show any fault codes before you sorted it? I’ve checked the actuator fluid level and the pipe you mentioned and both are fine so I can only think it’s the gearbox that has the fault, I’ll update when I have reprogrammed the gearbox. Cheers

There was no fault codes, just sounded like tractor really. Good luck it is a bit of a long shot but never known my seal was pretty shot and you get the part from citroen for a few pounds.

Update... Turned out the bearing inside the gearbox had failed, the ball bearings had dropped out of the bearing and it was letting oil through and slowly leak out of the box. Whoever fitted the the clutch last time must have just chucked it together and not lined things up properly, that’s the explanation I got from the gearbox specialist who sorted it. £500 quid lighter and another new clutch fitted and its running like a dream now.
