Hi, I'm new here and found on last Friday that the above issues caused the car to fail. The car in question is a 2007 1.6 HDi VTR plus automatic 110BHP version. I was told that nine times out of ten the boot issue is the microswitch. The fog light usually the bulb. Replaced the microswitch but did not make any difference, checked the terminals, ensured that the switch was pressed in and contacts touching on the outer shell. The foglight, the bulb holder was corroded so cleaned it with electrical connector cleaner, the bulb did not look like it was blown, but changed it nonetheless. Still nothing. I am assuming the next step is to check for continuity with the ignition on for both of these things. Can anyone advise on what terminals to check for each please. I have a multimeter. Naturally I am hoping the loom isn't broken at the point where the upper hatch opens. I guess I will need to check what fuse and relay does what and check the other functions that the fuse / relay supports for elimination. Thanks in advance for any help you are able to give. Ps. the microswitch connector is like a squarish shape. |

You need to check the wiring loom between the top of the tailgate and the roof, as these frequently break due to metal fatigue. Pull back the gaiters and you may well see damage. | ||||

Operate the boot release switch and listen for a micro switch click, if you hear it that should be ok. If not remove inner trim to check switch properly, could be broken at pivot point. If ok remove electrical plug from switch and short out with a piece of wire, if you're wiring is good including the area described in previous post from routemaster your boot will unlatch. |
