I am looking for a 2013 diesel model with Exclusive Plus specification. In the ads they state AUTO but I have read that some models are semi auto. How do I tell the difference from the model number? I do not want a model that I can only change gears with the paddles

Even if you do get one with paddles it only gives you the option to use them manually. You can use the box in full auto mode or in manual (flappy paddle) mode. That said in auto you can overide the box and use the paddles to change down a couple of gears before an overtake - or choose a higher gear than the box selects. You can use the box in manual mode to change up but ignore downchanges as the box will do these even in manual mode. Brilliant really |

A review of the C4 Picasso showed that it had a semi-auto box with changes of gears ONLY by the paddles.Do such models exist?

Was this a professional review or a personal one? the Box is automatic in operation, EGS, EAT, ETG or full auto. As said before even in manual mode the auto box takes over when changing down and will take over if you over rev. Beware of reviews, read many if possible.

You can have EGS/ETG (which is the same despite the name change) on 1.6HDi models, this is an automated manual gearbox but it has an automatic mode which will fully change gears for you, even in manual mode it will change down if the revs drop too low and automatically change up at the red line. You also have EAT6 (2.0HDi blue only in 2013) which is a proper torque converter auto. This gearbox was also fitted when the Euro 5 compliant 1.6HDi was replaced by the Euro 6 compliant 1.6HDi blue. |

Charlesalmond, I see you are near me in Norwich. We now have a DS4, a C4 and a C3 Pluriel, all with semi auto gearboxes although the Pluriel is a slightly different box. If you want a demo by someone who has done over 100,000 miles with these boxes over the last 8 years and knows how to get the best out of them let me know and we will meet up
