Hi all,

My C4 AC evaporator is damaged so the Freon is leaking.
To replace the evaporator I will need to remove the dashboard and take out the heater matrix - the local AC shop told my that this is a known issue with the C4 and the 308.

In order to save some $$$ I would like to remove the dashboard by myself and replace the evaporator then go to my local AC shop to vacuum and fill new Freon.

I would like to know how difficult it is to remove the dash on my C4 and if anyone has done it? I've searched for videos and guides but couldn't find none. I do have the Citroen guide from Citroen Service Box.

Second, is there any other way to fix it without the need to completely remove the dash?

Best,

Hi Mosheva,

To replace the evaporator is a big job.. are you absolutely sure it is the evaporator rather than the rest of the system?

Yes, the AC guy checked and confirmed with a sniffer.. He also told me that he wished it wasn't it... He asked for a lot to fix it since this job is a pain...

So I was thinking maybe I can take the dashboard out replace the evaporator, install the dash and go for a gas refill. it will save me some $$

But beside the Citroen guide I don't find any other guides or videos regarding how to remove the dash.

Don't think it's worth the effort.

The leak-stop stuff will work temporarily, but event then only on small holes, like punctures in the condenser or gaps in the seals. If the damage is corrosion, or a crack which is changing shape, then as soon as the condition worsens, your aircon fluid will be lost.

That's the point I'm not sure what is the condition, if it's a small hole or a shape change..

I've read that if my AC holds a vacuum for 4 minutes than this product can be helpful...

Hey, I'm kinda late here but I just got to this thread and was wondering what happend at the end? Did you get it fixed by yourself and what procedure did you go through? I got my C4 in November with a low a/c pressure error code and haven't had the chance to test it since we've not had warm weather. I got it to a ac specialist today and when he hooked it up to pressure test it, it started hissing from the top of the dash. The guy told me that the dash would have to be removed in order to replace the evaporator. I couldn't find much inforamtion on the internet about how to fix that problem and I was wondering if there is a way to do it with the dashboard in place. Maybe through the glovebox (it is left hand drive) or if I take off all the trimming around the radio and the vents? Any help would be appreciated.

Unusual if it was the evaporator, the condenser or compressor are the usual failure points.

Evaporator can't be removed from the heater box, so you'll have to take the dash down.

I ended up removing my dash to change the evap. I did it myself since I do have some experience with working on my own cars and the quotes I got from repair shops were absurd. The only thing I couldn't figure out is how to remove the steering wheel with it being so weird. Anyway, I got to the climate control box thing and the evaporator really is sealed shut in there. I had another climate unit ready for me to purchase here locally but I thought why not try to extract the evap and replace it when I have the option to buy it separately. I carefully hacked the plastic with a dremmel and took out the old evap. It had a couple of corroded holes right in the middle of it so it was not repairable. I cleaned the whole inside of dust and refrigerant liquids, the new evap fitted right in there and I "welded" the plastic with a soldering iron and hot glue. Ever since then I've been blasting my AC all summer with no issues at all.
I did a lot of excessive unnecessary removing of parts because I was figuring everything out on my own and the whole thing took me around 4-5 days with me never having something like this done before.

Hi guys
I have a similar problem with my car. The evaporator is damage and had to be replace as the aircon gas was leaking inside the car. I have a quick question. Is right hand drive and left hand drive evaporator different??

Hello,

This is an oldish thread but I am having the same issue with my daughter's DS4.

I also have no experience in removing a dashboard. So far I have managed to remove everything and am at the point of undoing the various fixing bolts. My question is regarding the wiring harness(es) must they be detached from the dashboard or can they "simply" be unolugged from the fusebox? Is there anything special I must lookout for?

I have taken plenty of pictures and I hope to make a write-up once I have finished, it may help other people as I have not found a detailed topic on this issue.
