Hello

I've just had a look at changing the front discs and pads on my 13 plate 1.6 HDI (115). I can't figure out what the bolts holding the fixed caliper in place are - looks like an external torx of some size.

I've tried searching but only finding references to the T50/55 internal torx bolts used on the mk1.

I've got a photo but can't upload it - the uploader is not working for me on my phone or PC.

Does anyone know what bit I need to get these off?

Cheers
Ben

Hi Ben, I recently replaced the front discs and pads on our 2012 B7 1.6HDi (same engine as you). See this thread - Click Here -

Please note that the Citroen's instructions state you must replace these caliper retaining bolts - I suspect that they are tightened beyond yield like a cylinder head bolt - see my thread on the link above

The ATE TEVES calipers are fastened with M12 bolts with external Torx heads. You need E numbered spanners to remove the bolts.

I also softened the locking compound with a blowtorch (1-2 minutes max with heat shielding of any adjacent parts) otherwise they will be very tight and you might break the spanner / bolt head.

regards

I've added a link to some Kennedy Torx Star or E numbered spanners - Click Here - to give you an idea of what is needed.

Personally, I would always use spanners rather than ratchet bits to remove any tight fasteners (line of force is direct with the head of the fastener)

Thanks, that's really helpful!

I don't suppose you know which E numbered spanner it is - is it E12 to match the thread?

Do you know of any suppliers for replacement bolts, or do I need to call the Citroen parts department for them?

ISTR that genuine Citroen disc pad packs included replacement calliper bolts.

When the dealer replaced my discs, they mentioned that the bolts needed replacing. I mentioned that I thought the discs came with new bolts, apparently they don't on mine!

Thanks for the info. I've just checked my discs (Pagid) and no bolts in the box. I'll phone Citroen on Monday.

The bolts are bundled with the pads. See this FAQ: - Click Here - (Images absent because of site error.)

Ha, I'd forgotten about the bank holiday!

Strange - there were 4x hex bolts in the rear pad box, but nothing with the front pads (also Pagid). I'll maybe double check in case they were hidden somehow.

The link refers to Mark I C4s fitted with TRW (Lucas) front brakes. The rear brakes on the MarkII (B7) are also TRW so these have the M6 screws supplied with the pad set. The front ATE/Teves brakes fitted to most of the B7 variants do not have any pad retaining screws so it would be illogical to provide screws in a pad set for them (and hence none of the ATE/Teves pad sets contain any screws).

Hopefully this will clarify the subject and stop folk looking for non existent screws.

Regards

Note, the caliper mounting screws are M12 x 1.5mm metric fine. Not pad retaining!!!!

They were Bosch.

NOT ATE/Teves then. Teves use a completely different system to TRW/Lucas/Girling/Bosch

@gmerry Did you get a chance to check the head size on the caliper bolts?

I've found this thread which suggests E16 - does that seem right?

Thanks

Hi, the car is away at the moment but I checked the spanner set and I used an E14 x E18 spanner to loosen the bolts: my guess it was the E14 not the E18 end I used. I don't think that E16 is a metric preferred size so not likely to be that size (but I could be wrong) or that referred poster may have used an oversized spanner because of corrosion....

Hi 401kill, did you get the disks changed out. Any confirmation on the spanner E number for the caliper to hub attachment bolts. Any other tips on doing this job?

regards
