Hi, this is my first post but I have been a reader for years and have previously owned a Citroen BX 1.6 GTI (remember them) and from new, a xsara Picasso and until very recently a Grand Picasso 1. 6 Hdi exclusive.

I am now the proud owner of a new white 17 plate C4 Picasso Flair 130 Auto. I was happy with the diesel in my GP but a test drive in a Grand Picasso with the Auto 130 Puretech engine confirmed what I had already read that the Puretech engine is a little gem. Although not quite as torquey as the Hdi engine it was not far off. The Auto was very smooth, a massive improvement to the EGS in my GP. The little Puretech engine was very quiet but had a lovely growl when accelerating. It also felt pretty quick.

We were originally going to buy a feel with options, such as the reversing camera, kids pack, etc. But after checking prices and not getting that good a price from our local dealer, we managed to order a car from Autoebid saving £7000! This allowed us to buy a Flair instead of a Feel plus options and still be in budget.

I have only driven 400 miles but already I have fallen in love with the car. The boys love the sun roof and my partner likes the electric foot rest. The Auto opening tailgate is very useful. Compared with my old GP there is as much rear leg room. It handles better, the ride is smoother at low speeds and it glides on the motorway like the GP but with less wallow. It's quiet on a 70 plus cruise with little wind noise, no engine noise, only tire noise depending on the surface. But the engine is full of character, it warms up very quickly sounds and goes well and it does suit the car.

Economy is not too bad but nothing like the artificial official figures. On one of my first longer journeys with a still tight engine and a full car load it managed 47 mpg. ( cruising between 50- 80). The best my GP did was around 53 but most of the time on short school run journeys it was around only 32mpg. The new Pic is doing around the same, so for me, for a petrol, it's pretty good and hopefully it should hit around 50 mpg with more miles. The only danger is the engine is so sweet that I may end up using its performance more and then the economy will suffer! To sum up from my own personal experience the engine has great potential for good economy if driven with care.

I will Write an update later as there are not many Puretech owners around at the moment.

Just one quick question, my old GP had an oil level indicater that was shown as " Oil Okay" on start up. But on my new Pic nothing is shown. Is this another deletion from the facelift models? It's shown in the handbook .

Excellent, it's really good to have an owner talk about the Puretech engines especially in the larger Picasso because, as you say, the number of owners is low at the moment. I'm not surprised by your experience and in truth I'd have preferred this engine in my current car if it wasn't for us towing a caravan!

Please keep updating your thread as this is excellent information for new owners and those considering a switch from diesel. I've always been a fan of 3-pot engines as they emit such a nice thrum (we've had two smart cars plus my A2 has a 3-cylinder engine), as I say if we weren't towing then this be the obvious choice (be it C4, C4P, C4GP or DS4!)

You're right about going to a broker and the price difference between the Feel and Flair especially if you want some of the options on the Feel as you quickly get to the price of the Flair or close enough to make it worthwhile upgrading.

I spotted a Picasso in the new beige-silver colour the other day (can't remember it's name) and it looked utterly fantastic.

I do wonder, as diesel becomes less attractive, whether Citröen will introduce the 1.6THP back into the range in various states of tune (Peugeot have for the new 3008) - we could go petrol then!

The oil level indicator has been removed from a number of model, I think it's only on the diesel engines now but not 100% sure.

Hello and welcome.

Great write up - photos would also be great, to see your new pride and joy!

Do you know which month your car was built? Interesting if the entertainment system has received any new functionality.

Amazing to see some of the massive discounts available on your car, compared to Citroen dealers.

According to the previous Citroen price guides (prior to the December 2016 guide), the digital oil level and pressure is fitted to all C4P/GP vehicles, except the BlueHdi 100 and 120 models. After December 2016, no mention of this feature is listed, so its possible its gone, the same was as laminated glass all round and others bits and pieces!

I have the 'oil OK' indicator on my own GP, but it only seems to be seen occasionally on the top screen, during initial ignition start up (2.0 BlueHDi 150 Exclusive+). Its all a bit random anyway, as far as I recall, for some reason, not appearing on every single start up. I check the dipstick level regularly anyway. On my previous Citroen C5, back in 2001, I regularly parked on a slope and it used to say insufficient oil, despite it having plenty!

Hi, thank you for your replies.

Not sure of the build date but it must be around end of Jan early Feb this year. It hasn't got Androids version of apple play which I know was added to Feb builds but I have been told this can be added as a firmware upgrade if required. I use Apple play which works well. Not aware of any other media changes.

It is a bit annoying when there are spec deletions. The brochure/ spec lists are not always updated, even dealers don't know! As far as the oil level indicator is concerned, I check the oil with the dipstick so this will not be a problem, just a bit surprising on an otherwise high tech car.

I've just checked the side windows and I'm sure they are not laminated so that's something else that's gone. It seems quieter then my old mk 1 Exclusive spec Gp, so hopefully it will not make much difference. The lower steering wheel controls have gone but I knew that before. Not noticed anything else changed/missing from the brochure but I will be having a closer look!

This is my second three cylinder engine, I did own a Seat Ibiz that also had a lovely sweet engine. They are definitely more interesting and characterful then the average four cylinder petrol or diesel.

I will post updates as the car loosens up. I did not mention but I had a factory fitted removable tow bar fitted to use as a cycle carrier.

Not quite the same, I know, but yesterday I had a Puretech 85bhp DS3 as a loan car yesterday, and I must say I was impressed. Much easier to drive than our diesel C3, although a bit slow up hill. If I were to buy a small car now, I would definitely consider the petrol. Our diesel C£ is indicating 62.7mpg, the DS3 was 58mpg!!!!

I was after a Pic last year, not wanting to pay full new prices, and ended up with a pre facelift Blue Hdi 120 Excl+ less than 1 year old. No petrol ones to be found. I would have preferred a puretech 130, based on our experience with the non turbo 1.2 82bhp in our C3 - a really good engine, decent torque, no need to rev it hard but above 4500 it flies!

(FrankBullitt - personally I doubt the 1.6 will be back, its a jv with BMW/Mini and I wonder if any of that will carry on for long after the Vauxhall Opel deal. PSA reckon the 1.2 puretech can easily go up to 160bhp - probably much cheaper to build, easier to meet emission standards and lighter)

Anyway - I've never been brave enough to go through one of these online brokers - OP mentioned Autoebid, I would be interested in any thoughts, hints or experiences using them or similar.

I doubt that I'm the near future - the 1.6e-THP featured on both the 3008 (a brand new product) plus it will also have various states of tune in the DS7 too including with a hybrid option;

No doubt there will be a new petrol at some point to replace it but as the B78 had the 1.6THP from launch until recently (and still does outside the UK) it's not a difficult task to put it back in; whether they do or not though...

Fair point Frank - I thought 4 pots were on the way out generally sub 2.0 litres but it looks like PSA are still investing in them.
