Hi, I am looking at buying a Grand C4 Picasso and am therefore new to the forum. I am in NI but probably going to buy in England due to better availability / lower prices.
I think I have narrowed it down to Diesel (1.6 or 2.0) VTR+ with manual gearbox (in order to avoid potential problems with the semi auto). As I am travelling to get the car I am assuming that I can expect a reasonable standard if I stick to main dealers. Choices are an August 10 car with 40k on it, or 1 of 2 2012 cars with mid-40's miles. The price difference is approx. £2.5k and I am wondering if that is worth it to get the post facelift model and a slightly younger car. Obviously it would be useful to see the cars first hand but all are in 'excellent condition' according to the dealers.

Welcome

I would start by saying a facelifted car is a better bet, yes, especially if the 1.6HDi - Citroën replaced the older 16v engine with an 8v engine that had more torque and a 6-speed box but if greater importance modified injector bolts; on older cars if the injectors are lose this will ultimately kill the turbo and a £2500 bill ensues - the 8v unit has modified bolts and does not suffer. The facelifted car was introduced in 2010 so you can find them at prices closer to the pre-facelift cars. An older car needs a spotless history and evidence of the bolts being inspected.

Otherwise good luck, you can't get a pre-facelift 2.0 manual* and post facelift they are still fantastically rare.

* I have seen one although it was never officially available in the U.K. Market - no idea where it came from.

Yes, there was someone about 2009 who posted to say he had a pre-facelift 2.0 manual. I'm sure many people didn't believe him. Also, there are rare examples of non-Exclusives with air suspension.

Welcome to the forum.

I've recently bought my Grand Pic. I went for the 2.0 HDi for the extra towing capacity. If you go for the 1.6 HDi make sure it has a full service history. Lack of regular servicing can kill off the turbo and the only permanent fix is to replace both the turbo and the associated oil feed piping. Most cars came with the 6 speed semi auto (the EGS as is is also known) which can be troublesome. Fortunately, mine is a good one. You might struggle to find a manual as they're harder to come by. Check out as many examples as possible before making your choice and get yourself in front of the cars so you can assess them properly.

See aove post. 2.0HDi manuals were not available until early 2011. I ordered one as soon as they were available in mid Jan 2011, and registered March 2011.

The OP hasn't decided on which engine to go for yet. I couldn't find one with a manual gearbox. The EGS is fine if has been looked after and I don't really mind the auto which is also better for towing in my case. I like all my mod cons so I went for the Exclusive. I want everything to be working so I'll just fix anything that doesn't work and replace anything that is missing. It is just a matter of finding a car that has been looked after. They're generally the good ones.
