Hi all,

My 2006 1.6 diesel hatchback has been showing the spanner icon since 75,000 miles. I looked in the manual for the service schedule and what specifically needs doing but there is no info there and neither can I find it on the web.

Can someone please enlighten me about the schedule -- where can I find it? -- and 75,000 miles in particular? I'm going to be taking it to the garage but I'd like to be able to check they do what they are supposed to do.

Thanks in advance.

The servicing spanner appears every 12,500 miles.

The 75,000 mile service is important and a big one - all filters and Eolys if your car has a DPFS. Get it done ASAP as the oil must changed to protect the turbo.

Hey, thanks. My VIN is VF7**9HY... which means, according to - Click Here - , that I don't have a particulate filter. So I guess that means no EOLYS?

Correct - the 9HY is the 110Hdi without a DPFS.

But the 75,000 mile service is still the full works.

Hi Since06, are you asking the question because you have recently acquired the car and it has little history (receipts and stamps) or are you double checking what a dealer has said.

Anyway, as per BigJohn, oil filter and oil change is always the most urgent so don't delay on this.

The engine air filter is often not changed because access is fiddly underneath the scuttle. So if you are nimble, do this one yourself. Changing the diesel fuel filter and drainage of any trapped water can eliminate expensive problems so if no history get this done.

The air conditioning will need attention if no history. Probably best to go to an aircon specialist to get the remaining charge sucked out and the system properly charged and leak checked. Also replace the aircon passenger air filter (on engine bulkhead drivers side of the car). While you are there, sterilise the passenger side of the aircon/heater to kill any bugs and smells.

Now you are into biggy stuff. The car is 10 years old which is time to replace the camshaft timing belt and the water pump (again assuming no history so not done so far). While you are doing this, the coolant will need flushing and recharging, taking care to eliminate trapped air. The cambelt tensioner will need changing and also replace the alternator belt while you are working in this area.

Brakes need maintenance: best to bleed out and replace the entire fluid system. Get this done properly including the trapped fluid in the ABS block (needs diagnostic computer). Of course the disks need inspecting and replacing on condition, likelywise the brake pads and the calipers need cleaning and greasing (back of pads using proper brake lube not copperslip or any other rubbish. While doing the brakes, the condition of the rubber hoses and short pipe connections, plus handbrake cables need inspection for corrosion/perishing etc. The brake servo hoses should be removed from the car and inspected for any signs of oil migrating back to the brake servo..

The battery should be checked (quick check is the length of time after a decent run that you get before economy mode kicks in, if you only get 5 minutes battery is weak). Otherwise get it checked via voltage reading across terminals (min 6 hours after charging and a load/drop test)

Then there is a bunch of stuff to check on this engine, around the injectors and turbo air circuit. Lots of data on this forum and I'm sure other can help you here.

Could I point out that the official mileage for cambelt changes is ~120,000 miles on HDi engines. Of course it is up to you whether you change the belt now or wait.

Hi, just to clarify for cambelt changes: official guidelines are based on miles or age (10 years) whichever comes first.

Thanks very much G et al. I've already had it serviced, armed with the specs courtesy of BigJohnD and this site. G is right that the cambelt criterion is 10 years or 120,000 miles.
