I bought Citroen C4 1.6HDI 3weeks ago which is registered in 2006. The car is in 62000miles now and next servicing is showing after 8500 miles.previous owner did the servicing November 2014.I have gone through with all the servicing records and found that it was serviced every two years..after first servicing in Citroen they gave next servicing date two years later..and again after 2nd seevicing in 2009citroen gave another date in 2011..so my question is, is it not every year or 10,000 miles that a car needs servicing? How often do i need to do servicing for this car?

The official mileage interval for a 1.6HDi service is 12,500 miles, although I'm not sure whether it is every year or 2 years. It is vital to have the car properly serviced with the correct oil and a good quality (Citroen OEM safest). It is fine to change the oil sooner if you wish. As many people have said, oil is cheap, a new turbo is not.

The service intervals are in the book but it's generally recommended on here to go for 12 months or 12k miles - what Citroen call extreme condition use

2 years between a service is a joke, way to long. Like the other have said, go for yearly intervals with good quality low saps oil and a genuine Citroen oil filter. I change the oil every 6 months.

Just to be clear though the official service interval for the 1.6HDi of that age is indeed 12,500 miles or 2 years, whichever comes first so it sounds like it's been serviced as per the book, despite there being a strong link between the long time interval and the turbo's going pop. From now on, I think you need to service annually or 12,500 miles whichever comes first. |

Since last servicing the car ran only 3400 miles...next month would be one year and i dont think the milage would be even reach to 4200 up to that date. do you think i really need to expend £180 to do servicing! other thing is i checked the oil and it appeared to be black...but one of my friend said that its normal with diesel car. can anyone confirm me please?

Yes, it is normal for oil in a diesel to be black.

Citroen charge £115 all in on their value servicing deal which includes oil and filter - oil is cheap, engines aren't!

its only basic service...they are not changing Diesel fuel filter element, Air filter element, Spark plugs and Gearbox oil. but I was talking about full service where halford offered me £180 instead of £225. similar service Citroen charges £195. |

Product knowledge and expertise of Citroen dealers is in my view essential, I would not take my car anywhere else. I suggest you google Halford service centre reviews before considering saving what is but £15 above what Citroen would cost. Your car being diesel does not have spark plugs and the gearbox oil does not under normal circumstances need changing.

Agreed, full service is £195 and frankly that's the best £15 you'll ever spend! As noted, there are no spark plugs on a diesel and gearbox oil change is not a service item (but worth doing every 8 years or 100k on many cars). |

I've never found Citroen much more expensive and a lot of the time cheaper as they have their fixed price servicing options for cars over three years old. |

Listed on this forum you will find a list of independent Citroen garages - Click Here - most I have had experience of are cheaper and provide a very high standard workmanship.May be worth a try if there is one listed near you.

No one yet answered whether I should go for servicing or not. last full servicing was done November 2014 and since than it has just run 4500 miles only and still showing 8000 miles to go for next scheduled servicing.
