Has anyone here tried changing the interior lights with LEDs? I've been trying to tinker and open the front roof console without any luck, I'm afraid to proceed as I'm pretty sure sure to break something that I'm not familair with. Any help with diagrams or pictures would greatly be appreciated TJ |

I have just slip in a small flat head screwdriver and keep tugging, the LED type needs to be a 360 degree smd for best illumination.

I found it took an alarming amount of force to detach the unit from the headlining, but nothing broke and it looks pretty tough. I replaced my courtesy light bulbs with a pair of these but I've never been entirely happy with them. They're bright, but a bit on the purple side and run rather hot. That said, I've had them in place for about three months with no problems. Edit: The link was pointing to the wrong product. |

Run rather hot? LED should hardly make any heat! Can anybody back me up on that?

A domestic LED consumes about 3 watts - and might get warm. A 12volt interior LED will be much less and runs very cool. |

polestarboy wrote ... Run rather hot? LED should hardly make any heat! Can anybody back me up on that? LEDs are much more efficient than incandescent bulbs at low currents. They put out more light for each watt. If you drive them hard, they put out more light but at a much lower efficiency. They're still much more efficient than lightbulbs, but they waste energy as heat. The datasheet for a Cree XM-L U2 (a pretty common LED in decent torches), gives these numbers: 300 lumens from 2 watts 416 lumens at 3 watts 590 lumens at 4.6 watts 742 lumens at 6.4 watts That's a lot of watts which aren't being turned into light. The LEDs are clearly being pushed fairly hard to get that much light. If anyone's geeky enough to check my figures, lumen / mA is on page 3, foward voltage for the desired current is on page 5, and you should know how to calculate the power if you've got this far. ![]() |

Life's never that simple though. With the engine running a car's electrics usually run at about 14 volts, and LEDs draw more current from higher voltages. The LEDs are fine on battery power, but with the alternator running they got hotter that I would have liked. I'm not saying it's a problem (it doesn't seem to be), but I would have preferred it to be cooler. Don't put this model of LED unit in a mark 1 C4, they never quite turn off - I tried it in my brother's car. |

I tried to replace the 'Daytime running lamps/sidelamps(P21/5W XL)' with an LED type of the same wattage. This was easy enough to perform but after doing so and turning the ignition and engine on, I got the 'SERVICE' warning light on? Has anybody got a solution for this problem? The LED bulbs that I bought are the; 1157 BAY15D T25 P21/5W 50 SMD 1206 LED Brake Turn Stop Tail Light Bulb White.

May be the LED bulbs draw less current than the normal ones.

You need CANbus bulbs to avoid any error messages. I've got LEDs in the sidelight on mine and they're fine.
