Well, the turbo is off.

After thinking about ways to get it off & laying under the car looking at it, I decided to loosen the exhaust manifold nuts to gain a little more play & it was off in no time.

I've since refitted the vacuum capsule to the turbo & tried it with my vacuum gauge, everything appears to work as it should & I think I've gained a bit more insight into the vacuum system working by doing so.

It seems the default position if the VVT vanes is open & the vacuum pulls them closed, which mine wasn't doing so I might still have further vacuum issues to solve once I get it all back together again.

I also have a leaking #1 injector so I've got that to tackle as well.

I plan to move the car into a unit I share so I can work on it inside & later into the evenings but that can't happen this week.

All they do is dismantle it to add a new 'map'. It's not something for the amateur DIY mechanic though as you could 'fry' the electronics.....

Yes, I meant it's not as simple as through the odb port like on some ecu's, you have to physically remove the ecu from the car to open it up, or so I understand.

Looking at the list of things to do to follow the replacement of the turbo correctly, it isn't going to be a quick fix & I'm undecided what to do with regards to the "new" turbo anyway. Re-condition mine, buy on exchange or get one off ebay.

What exactly is the difference between the RHR & RHJ engines, they have the same turbo from what I've found on service box & I've been offered a low mileage one?

I'm quite interested in the outcome of this, my VTS has suddenly lost all boost and showing turbo position copy sensor as the fault. Until I'm sorted with the house move it's just not a priority to fix.

Hope it isn't anything terminal but like everyone says, check the vacuum system as this is the often where the problem lies.

Have you had your car on lexia? If you have & the faults are the same as I posted screen shots off above, then I suspect your VVT vanes are full open & the sensor is saying out of range as boost pressure is lower than expected.

Mine had a difference of 1172mb between expected & actual.

Ok, Thanks Dave, basically nothing then.

Although my car hasn't got a dpf, even service box states that when I put my chassis number in.

After looking further into the parts I need to get for when the time comes to refit the turbo, using the pdf from the members section & looking on service box, is there supposed to be a gasket between the manifold & turbo?

There wasn't one when it came apart & there's nothing showing on either service box or the pdf for turbo parts yet I've found them when looking elsewhere on the web.

If the guides and parts diagrams don't show one, then there isn't one.

Thought I'd finally give this topic an update now I'm able to get some time to fix it & get the car back on the road.

I sent my turbo to AET turbos to have it diagnosed, hoping it would just be a quick £200 refurb for new bearings & seals, returned ready to fit but the diagnosis from them wasn't what I'd hoped for.

My turbo was leaking a lot of oil at the compressor end & there was a serious amount of corrosion in the housing preventing the variable vanes moving so the turbo was beyond economical repair, meaning it would be a £400+ replacement turbo instead.

I've stripped the car further as advised by AET to try to find the cause of the problems but haven't found anything obvious so with everything cleaned up / checked as advised.

I've picked up a 60k turbo from a 2010 C4 Picasso off a breakers in Lichfield for £80 with a 3 month warranty & I've ordered the parts to put it back together over the next week to bring the saga to a close.
