Hi guys, had to take my plastic belly pan off today to do an oil change, I've refitted it now but wondered whether any of you run your motor without it? Does it serve any purpose other than to keep the bottom of the engine compartment clean? Cheers |

It'll help aerodynamically - and I'd wager it makes quite a difference to your fuel consumption without it. That's just my gut feeling - there might be no change whatsoever!!! I usually deal with airflow at 600mph, not 60! |

Leave it off, go through water at speed and you end up with wet electrics which is not good as others have found out. It's on the car by design so make sure it's on and secure. |

Just as a matter of interest are we saying all C4s have this cover or is it on the diesel models. The reason I ask is when I questioned the local dealer some 6 years ago was told they are only on diesels.

I better put mine back on then. I took it off last year to do an oil change and never put it back on. Will be doing an oil change this week, so will put it back on then. Gary. |

I cut a square hole in my belly pan and then cut a piece of plastic from the 1 mm thick flexible kitchen cutting board my wife had. Drilled 4 holes and used push fit fasteners like those holding a wheel arch liner on and oil changes are much easier. Remove the 4 push fit fasteners, remove the (blue) piece of cutting board, drain oil and replace. The Xantia used to have a similar flap, don't know why Citroen didn't have one for this car.

I ran my last car for a little while without until some debris killed the cooling fan control resulting in an overheated engine a month or two later!

My thoughts are, for what they are worth, that manufacturers save pennies by not fitting various bits and pieces - so if they do fit something like the belly pan/cover then it MUST be there for a good reason - even if I don't know what the reason is
