C4 Picasso 1.6d 2014 model VTR + Airdream ,present mileage 5003 standard Tesco fuel used, no business use. For sometime I have wanted to do a proper MPG test over a variety of roads, a few days and as far C4 Picasso 1.6d 2014 model VTR + Airdream present mileage 40000 no business use. For sometime I have wanted to do a proper MPG test over a variety of roads, a few days and as far as possible normal driving habits. We live in Northern Ireland and decided to have a short 3day Autumn break at a rather famous site "The Cliffs of Moher" some 250+ miles from my home. We travelled on Friday spent Saturday sight seeing and returned on Sunday and yes we did spend two nights in a hotel. Total mileage 500 of this most was motorway and good quality dual carriage way but the sight seeing was on good old fashioned Irish c class and also the lead to the m way and d car., was same, they were hard going. We did not try any fancy economy driving but at start of journey I set the speed limiter to 70, needless to say I did not pass many other cars!!! I noted that at no time on the good roads where it was possible to maintain 70 the revs never exceeded 1700 also I did try, when I thought about it to keep the RPM under 2000 for all other driving. This is the first time in my life I have restricted my all round driving to 70mph and to be honest found the experience quite satisfying. Total mileage over the 3 days oooo time taken approx 5 hours each way with a day spent pottering about, mpg was 54.4. This is the first time in my life I ever achieved mpg like this. I can only guess setting the speed limiter to 70 and the 6speed gearbox had a lot to do with this. I will some, day do another long run with limiter set to 65 just to see what happens, but to be honest am well pleased with around 50 mpg. I used the trip feature on the dash board for calculation. Driver and passenger, small amount of luggage, air con was running on auto all the time. Weather was very mixed quite a lot of rain and blustery winds, just about average for Irish Autumn. All round found the C4 Picasso a most pleasant stead a great improvement from the old model, I have a 2006 model which has been through the mill a few times but still runs very smooth. arm987 |

If the current Pic is anything like the older ones, all you need to do is set one of the two trip recorders to to do just that. Bear in mind the limit is 9,999Km/6,200 or so miles. One off trips with careful driving which cover less than a tankful of fuel only prove what the car can do - you have to maintain the driving style for several months to keep the average fuel consumption low. Best of luck with your challenge! |
