My car is 3 years old on January 13th so booked it in a week early for it's first MOT (taking advantage of my local dealers great discount offer of £10.00 for the test) just in case there were any issues to address, but it sailed through!!

Only thing to note was that the rear brake pads are wearing thin and there is some corrosion to the disc inner face so will look to changing them probably at the next service due in a couple of thousand miles which is not bad considering the mileage which should top 70,000 by the 13th.

Any complaints with the car?

Not from me

Most of you will know the car is the subject of the Long Term Road Test here - Click Here - where you will find a lot more detail but to say I have been happy with the car would be an understatement.

The running costs have been far lower than I initially expected so far.....

Should you buy one?

It really depends on what your looking for. If you want a good looking, economical, fun to drive, reliable workhorse with character at a great price then it can only be a big YES

Forget about the initial issues with early cars that were fixed under warranty and mostly ironed out in the current models. You shouldn't go wrong owning a C4 HDi

3 years an no complaints? no rattles or niggly electronics problems?

if so thats good to hear, im inbetween a C4 VTR+ HDi or a Honda Civic type S 1.8i-vtec

reading on their forums there seems to be no end of problems, especially considering the interior quality and fitment.

they also complain of harsh, loud, crashy ride and suspension and in some cases, bad wind/road noise (something my C4 Loeb driving friend says is remarkably well contained on the C4)

3 years and no major problems is very good to hear though. i had my reservations about this car since its so well spec'd and the price is so keen it makes you wonder just how they did it. as im looking at used cars, how their relative qualities hold up with thousands of miles on the clock is important to me

either they are actually sub par parts or they just dont cost as much as other manufacturers make you think they do. come to think of it with drive by wire these days lots of things like cruise, and speed limit should be simple and cheap to implement.

Firstly, welcome to C4O.

Secondly, never believe Jeremy Clarkson.

Thirdly, distinguish between faulty manufacture and poor service from your local dealer.

Fourthly read this - - Click Here - - "50,000 trouble free miles with a C4 VTR+ 110 diesel Berline"

The VTR+ 110 diesel is by far the best version (having lit blue touch paper, stands well back - )

19th September 2008 @ 82,073 miles A bit early but had the car in for service today due to work commitments. Cost £102.46 at Tints N Tweaks Once again great service a price I'm more than happy with.

James advised that the front pads were getting low but should last another 5,000 miles or so. The Alternator belt hadn't turned up so the car will have to go back to have it fitted next month plus there is a broken CV joint boot clip to replace and I have ordered a pair of front tyres, 215 X 45 X 17W Toyo Proxo's at £150 the pair fitted (cheaper from James than Black Circles for anyone living in the North East).

Apparently the CV boot clips have a tendency to corrode and simply snap. The boot it'self is fine but because they are so hard, are difficult to tighten using a 'jubilee clip' and they can catch on other parts so a new replacement clip was recommended

The 'Admirals' on the front still have some mileage left (have done 22,000+ miles so not bad for a 'budget' brand' which cost £60 each) but were a menace in the wet conditions we suffered recently and had the ESP light blinking like a Christmas tree on speed, so are going before winter set's in.

Apart from that the car is fine, no signs of any corrosion at all on the exhaust which is great news.

That's excellent.

Interesting observation on the tyres. I have to be positively heroic to get the ESP light to come on with the new Michelins.

But it is fun to drive

Just to update this, it's now 4+ years and over 90,000 miles and the Long Term Road Test does get updated
