Citroën was featured on a BBC1 consumer affairs programme on Wednesday 2 July.

The story related to the premature degradation of the air springs in the rear suspension system on some versions of the previous-generation C4 Picasso, produced from launch in 2006 to November 2010.

We would like to emphasise that this is not a safety issue and therefore the vehicles concerned have not been subject to a recall.

It is also important to point out that this issue does not affect New C4 Picasso models.

Customers requiring further information are asked to call the Citroën Contact Centre on 0800 3288 141 or to e-mail e mail icon. Lines are open until 10.00pm on Wednesday 2 July and then, commencing Thursday 3 July, from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.

It would appear that anyone with failing airbags on a C4GP under 10 years old and 120,000 miles will get 80% of the repair cost covered by Citroen.

This also appears to apply to those who have paid for previous repairs themselves who will need to apply for a refund.

However it is unclear if it also covers failed compressors.

Oh and having tried the help line number, it appears that it's not open to 10.00 p.m. tonight....

What about 2011 on? (Rhetorical question). Mine is outside range but also outside warranty. Fingers crossed, no issues yet though.

10 years = 2007 < 2017 so well within the range if the airbags do go....... Depending on mileage though

I think it's a pretty good result to be honest, I just hope that the airbags aren't on back order and that there are enough to go round before the August shut down!

I did wonder if those who had paid for spring conversions would be able to claim...only one way to find out!

Good luck C4GP Exclusive owners!

I had my C4GP suspension changed by the excellent Eurocarcare of Derby. I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if I can get a refund. Fingers crossed.

I want to know if conversion to springs apply to the 80% that will be paid by Citroen?

I seriously doubt that. They are offering to replace failed air bags with new ones.

But you could always get in touch yourselfand ask them on the number supplied and let us know the outcome........

I tried the number a few times today but couldn't get through, maybe they are very busy.

I decided to call in to my dealer, the car is booked in for a check on Monday and I was assured that I wouldn't be fobbed off and I'd be allowed to see for myself, they said if it was leaking and needed doing it would be done under warranty with no cost to me.

You couldn't ask for fairer than that.

Would we get a warning to tell us our airbags have failed? just that when my car starts up I can hear what could only be the airbags being compressed with air! Or maybe something like that

Perfectly normal it's when the airbags try to inflate and the car doesn't go up you should start panicking. Convert it to springs before it goes wrong. I have and it's the best £300 you will spend!

Disappointed the 'Motoring Expert' on the TV programme can't tell the difference between the air suspension in Picasso's and hydropneumatic suspension, but I'll never tire of an opportunity to watch a DS on TV!

The compressor will be activated to level the car fully as it might not be 100% but this only takes a few seconds - the first sign of failure is the car 'sitting' down notably which needs to be dealt with ASAP as your compressor would be working overtime to keep the leaking bags filled.

My airbags leaked and I had them replaced in April paying almost £400. I got through eventually and they took my details and gave me a case number and said will get back in 5 days. I said I understand they will pay 80% and was told each case will be looked at individually to see if it qualifies. In the [%*^#@!] programme they only spoke of C4 GP's but mine is a 5 seater so I can't see there being any difference.I did see this offer also covers the compressor with the same conditions.

Well I had both bags go and the pump all was replaced in oct 2012 and cost me £795 as Citroen paid for the bags. Now my left side has failed again!!

Just phone the helpline and opened a case, I've asked for a full refund and a permanent fix to my suspension (springs) as there is no point in putting another bag in and it failing again in a years or two.

Will let you know how I get on
