I wonder if Citroen actually did any testing of this product before releasing it?

I have noticed a few bugs up to now.

As stated the radio carries on being displayed when Ipod source is selected. Cycling through the display modes once rectifies this.

After pressing button 1 to display album / artist / genre etc., only about 3-4 characters are displayed making it virtually impossible to read. At the same time the characters flicker like the car is constantly blanking and re-drawing the screen while polling the ipod.

Pressing up on the direction pad on the radio scrolls you down the list! Plus you have to press the button multiple times to move up/down the list, you can't keep your finger pressed on it to scroll.

Pity as it could have been a great product if they had taken the time to get it right

I guess these are all limitations of the way the USB BOX works, as it is simply faking to be a CD changer. The pictures in the previous post should comfirm the suspicion that it is infact a Dension derived product, as Dension is Hungarian, and appearantly the USB BOX is manufactured there.

Well spotted, Szigi.

Here's the Dension Gateway 100 (£99.97) which seems remarkably similar to the 9702.EZ. - Click Here -

They also say here - Click Here - :
CD RETENTION KIT: The Dension CD retention Kit allows you to retain full function of your CD Changer aswell as accessing music from your Ipod via your Gateway 100 or 300 (£47)

Things are moving on as we speak…

This confirms the issues I have, didn't mention the reverse scroll in the list (ie. up button goes moves down) but that happens too...

I think I get around 10 characters that scroll, hopefully a software update could improve this.

My dealer called me back today after speaking to someone from Citroen UK accessories regarding my 2 issues (charging iPod touch + display initially sticks on radio).

Apparently there is a software update for the stereo imminent, so that may will fix the display issue.

As for the charging, the USB box was not designed for my iPod so may not charge it (as I noted it does charge nano 2nd and 3rd gen), but my iPod touch does always show fully charged so maybe the box is powering (but not charging) or the iPod touch has a bug that does not show it's charging when in accessory mode.

Was told the software update is downloaded from the net, but it might be a month before it is released (dealer update of course)

Or perhaps based on the Dension 300 listed under products - Click Here -

I was looking through the Dension site tech support area a few days back and there is mention of an update that can be downloaded to an iPod and then to the USB unit, but not knowing if this is exactly the same model, I would be very reluctant to try to implement it.

As you say, things are moving as we speak.

Well it good to see that there is still some development going on And it will be good if the unit can be updated at home rather than a dealer visit

This is a car software update so you need the citroen software on a laptop with the correct cable!

Basically a dealer update.

Pleeeaaase please please can someone tell me if you can use the audio scroll wheel (the upper right one) on the steering wheel for scrolling through artist/album lists?

Because, as far as I can tell, when for pretty much the same price as getting the USB box fitted you can get the Alpine iDA-X001 head unit and C4 steering control adapter, the only advantage I can see to the Citroen USB box is that it allows you to use the display in the C4 for displaying audio information. But, I bet the Alpine unit is better sound quality, so it's swings and roundabouts...

BUT... what might swing it for me in favour of the USB box is if you can use the scroll wheel on the steering wheel for scrolling with the USB box. Because I bet you won't be able to do that with the Alpine unit and steering control adapter...

Just had a quick try for you, bearing in mind mines not set up for CDTEXT yet, the scroll wheel did move the selector up and down the play list to select a different track

But you still need to press the right arrow on the radio head to select it, unless I missed something else

Thank you c4owner, you're a good man!

One more question if I may... how quick is the scrolling speed? I have 100s of different artists on my ipod, and I'm a bit worried that it's going to take 5 minutes of scrolling to get from one end of the list to the other!

Just to add a bit of fuel to the fire, the scroll wheel does not do anything with my USB box, but then again I am not using an iPod, just a memory stick.

Overall I think it is a great bit of kit, although some sort of firmware update to the head unit (as mentioned earlier) to allow for more than just a few characters on the dispay would be nice, unless that is a limitation to the display itself.

On my unit (complete dealer fit), the scroll wheel moves up & down the albums after pressing button 1, this is with the USB stick AND the iPod. However, you still need to press left/right to select the album/track so I don't see the point of using the scroll wheel.

I do find that the scrolling locks up/is slow from time to time and I have to press src to cycle back to CD4 to regain control.

I look forward to a software upgrade when it's available.

It's the lower right wheel which scrolls the list. If you have an SX or VTR, then you're stumped as this quadrant is not fitted

Well that's strange as it'#s the upper Right scroll wheel that move the cursor up and down for me
