I have a 2010 C4GP exclusive 1.6 HDi EGS and wondering if I have a problem with it regarding fuel consumption, I keep a fairly rigorous check on what fuel I use but it seems that my average is coming out at mid 30's mpg, a colleague who runs a C4 tells me that he gets mid 50's mpg from his. We both do similar mileage and run more or less under the same conditions except that his is manual and mine EGS and he is a bit younger and tends to drive a little quicker than me. Any ideas please? Should I be going back to the dealers and getting something checked out? |

Farmer, Mine is a 2010 manual 1.6 38,0000mls. I only use the onboard trip computer to measure mpg and I find that each week I can manage 49-51 mpg, mostly around town/shortish hops with the occasional motorway blast. Last week I had to go to Heathrow from Swansea and back in the day and didn't spare the horses but she still showed just shy of 50 mpg after prolonged 70-85 mph. I was/am very pleased with this particularly after coming over from a thirsty 4x4. I'm not suggesting you have anything amiss; maybe better wait for a few more comparisons first. |

Hmmm, it does seem as if mine is a little thirsty but before I go rushing off to the dealer I'll hang on and see if there is any more input from others, meanwhile thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply

I have a GP 2.0 HDI full Auto and get high 30's to 40 Mpg pretty much all the time. Drops to mid/low 30's in very cold weather (with snow guard). I would expect an EGS to return better MPG that a full auto, especially a 1.6.

OK silly question but..... Have you checked that the brakes are free and not binding or that the handbrake is releasing correctly? |

Brakes all releasing ok, it rolls along easily enough, no pulling to either side.

We got about 38mpg from ours (manual) if Mrs FB did lots of short journey's on a tank but having even just one decent motorway trip would bring this up to the mid-40's; the best we ever had was 55mpg dribing like a nun on A-roads, motorway trips at the legal limit tended to get about 50mpg.

Its looking like I may have a problem then, I've never got much better than high 30's even on a good steady run out

Fuel consumption is mostly down to the way it's driven, and the journey. Last time I drove a 1.6HDi GP I got about 39MPG. |

Had my 1.6 C4GP EGS for about 8 weeks and have done just over 4,000 miles ( I'm a very busy man) and according to the computer it has averaged 48.3 mpg. This is a mix of town, cross country and high speed motorway traffic (cruise set to 80mph) all done in A mode. Def something wrong with yours, worst I got was 44mpg on an 80 mile round trip but I was really flying (well at least as much as you can in a CGP) |

Looks as if it might be a trip to the dealer then, it's still under warranty so lets hope it can be sorted. Is there any way to re-map the ECU for better economy on these? |

Ok, but that could be done by the dealer I guess, without invalidating the warranty. A friend of mine has mentioned EGR valve, could that be a possible cause and would blanking it off help at all? |
