Hi everyone newbie here! Purchased a C4 Picasso a week ago and the gaiter needed replacing. The dealer I brought it from ordered me a new one which was delivered to my house. I have read many thread on here showing how to replace them. I have removed the old gaiter but cannot for the life of me get the gear knob off. I know they are tricky to remove. Which part of the gear knob actually comes off? I am worried that I am going to damage the gear stick!

Has anyone got any pics of which bit comes off?

Many thanks

The gear knob just pulls off but requires a big heave. Mind you don't knock your teeth out.

Hi thanks for that may get hubbie to remove it then . Does the whole knob come off just leaving the stick? Or is it just the round bit at the top?

Yes.

There's some tips on the site to make the job easier, but basically it's judiciously applied muscle.

I've used Windsors in Wallasey many times and found them to be helpful if you get stuck. They do charge the top rate though…

Yes - pull and unclip the base trim - shown as number 6.

Then grab the knob and just pull as hard as you can. (Make sure you don't smack yourself in the face.)

Remove the gaiter off the trim, then pull the gaiter backwards over the knob - this'll reveal a small cable tie which will need snipping.

Slide the new gaiter over the knob and get a small cable tie and pull tight, clipping the end off as close as you can, or 1 it'll annoy you, and 2 it'll prematurely wear through your new gaiter. Relocate the gaiter onto the trim - make sure you get the little cut outs in the new gaiter aligned to the correct posts on the trim. Refit the knob and give it a few thumps with your fist to make sure it's relocated then clip in the trim.
